On Sunday, Kyle Busch won the Cup Series race at the Bristol Motor Speedway. In the process, a number of things happened to him. First and foremost, the win brought him up to 6th in the championship. Secondly, he has now qualified to make it into the 2022 Cup Series Playoffs. Thirdly, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver has snapped a 25-race winless streak. Finally, the win also means that he now ties with Richard Petty for the most consecutive seasons with a win. After the race, the driver talked about something that does not let him enjoy the win, much.

He said, “The biggest thing that hinders me from enjoying this, is just the application. We’re trying to do something that isn’t applicable in my opinion. I mean, the first 10 laps of the race, everybody’s shooting mud off and we’re covering everybody’s grills. Our windshields are covered, with the dirt coming off the windshields. Those guys talk about the windshields, if we get rid of the windshield, we could have tear-offs and stuff. That’s fine, but the cars are 3500 pounds and you saw what its like in the last corner on the last lap, to drive around here every single lap. I mean, you are on edge, you are on your toes, just trying not to crash every single lap.”

What else did Kyle Busch say at Bristol?
He highlighted the difference between driving a sprint car or a midget car or a late model car, and a NASCAR car. With the other cars, there is a lot more grip and it is easier to drive. However, the NASCAR car is a lot heavier and difficult to control, so drivers are usually a lot tenser while driving.
Busch did acknowledge that, as long as the racing spectacle was fine, there were no issues. As for the Bristol track itself, he can now boast that he has won at the track on both surfaces. Now, he will be looking ahead to the coming race at the Talladega Superspeedway.
