Everything is bigger in Texas—especially the victories for Kyle Busch. Looks like Rowdy might be considering a new Texas greeting after his thrilling win at the Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night. In a dramatic finish, Busch snatched away the victory from Corey Heim to claim his record-tying sixth NASCAR Truck Series win at Texas, catching up with Todd Bodine for the most wins on the track. However, despite the win, Rowdy had to eat a humble pie, admitting a misjudgment that could have cost him the win.

Kyle Busch on misjudging Corey Heim in the race

Ever since the race was flagged off, Busch asserted his dominance by leading a whopping 112 laps out of 167. However, as soon as the checkered flag neared, Corey Heim, in his No. 11 Toyota, refused to yield.

During a post-race interview, Busch explained how things got a little bit dicey after a couple of restarts from the end. Furthermore, he revealed how he did not expect Heim to make a three-wide into turn one during the final restart.

Explaining how he made a mistake, Busch said, “Corey had been making that move the last couple of restarts on whoever he was behind, and kind of thought to myself… I was like ‘I don’t think he’s going to do it to me.’ However, admitting that he has been served a humble pie by Heim, he added, “(But) he did. So, don’t think anybody’s gonna cut you any slack because of what your name is.”

Moreover, he added that the move got him worried as it could have cost him the opportunity to control the race. Revealing how he is happy that he and his team were able to fight hard and get around Christian Ecke’s #19, Busch added, “I thought I’d be able to gap away like I had all night long and be able to build the gap, but that was just over the course of more laps and we just didn’t have enough laps to be to stretch out.”

After fending off Christian Eckes and Corey Heim, Busch claimed his 66th career victory in the Truck Series. When asked how the win affected him, Busch replied, “You could definitely feel it. That was kind of my thing there at the end where Corey got into it and was running in the higher lane there the last, I don’t know, five laps to go.

Furthermore, he explained how he tried to get up the track with just three laps to go but couldn’t make it as his tires weren’t hot enough. He explained, “I chattered really, really bad and about lost the lead, you know, lost enough momentum off of two where he got a big run on me. So, I just had to go back and run the bottom, protect the line on the bottom, and force him to just kind of stay running up there.”
