In NASCAR, the children of racing icons are making their own mark. Among these rising stars, the spotlight now shines on Brexton Busch, son of two-time NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Busch. But with opportunities knocking on his door, is Brexton’s destiny intertwined with his father’s legacy or something entirely unique?

Kyle Busch’s transition to Richard Childress Racing in 2023 came with an unexpected twist: a contract offer to his 8-year-old son, Brexton, from the legendary racing team itself. Yet, when Jeff Gordon extended a hand to the young prodigy, hoping to secure his talents, Kyle Busch firmly declined.

Who holds Brexton’s future?

Brexton Busch’s recent triumph in the Beginner Box Stock class brought immense pride to his family. However, the future of the 8-year-old still remains under his father’s tight control.

In a recent interview, Kyle Busch confirmed that his son has a contract with Kyle Busch Motorsports, granting him the first right to any future deals. Even when NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon came knocking, Kyle Busch made it clear that young Brexton was not up for grabs.

During a recent interview, when asked, “Have you told Richard in the news that Brexton is KBM’s rights first, right?”  Rowdy replied, “Yeah, yeah. And Brexton does have a contract with KB Motorsports in his paper. He did. He knew it was. He had to sign it. That’s right. So, yes, I have first right to whatever future deal he does. Jeff Gordon actually asked Brexton if he was available to sign something this weekend. And I was like, nope, you gotta buy him out.”

A short clip of what happened that day was shown where Gordon asked Brex, “You’ll have a contract sent over at RCR. you want to look over it?.” The young prodigy replied with enthusiasm, “Obviously Yeah.” But looks like his father had other plans. “No, you’re one of me. Nah, KBM owns the rights to you, boy.” Kyle Busch joined the conversation with a laugh.

While this was all fun and games, we can’t ignore the fact there is some uncertainty around Brexton’s future in case he is bound by contract to Kyle Busch Motorsports. After Spire Motorsports purchased the team and its assets from Busch, there has been skepticism around the new management and the overall future of the team. Considering this, don’t you feel Hendrick Motorsports’ vice chairman’ offer was, at the very least, worth listening to? But what does Kyle Busch think about his son’s success?

As Brexton’s racing journey continues under the watchful eye of his father, it’s important to remember that mentorship isn’t a one-way street. Kyle Busch himself admits to gaining new insights from his young prodigy.

Reflecting on his son’s budding career, Kyle Busch fondly recalls his own early days in racing when financial constraints demanded that equipment be preserved. He sees a similar mentality in Brexton, who, despite his father’s $80 million fortune, approaches racing with a sense of responsibility and prudence.
