While the road course race at Sonoma Raceway was a bit dull for many, Kyle Busch fans witnessed a nail-biting head-to-head finish between him and his former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Martin Truex Jr during the final minutes of the race. However, what we are here to talk about is something that happened even before the race green flag flew for the race.
Ahead of the race, during the press conference, Busch opened up about his Richard Childress Racing teammate although unfortunate circumstances had got the best of him recently. Giving his thoughts, Busch also mentioned 3 tracks where Austin Dillon put on a show by filtering through the field and simply out-classing the ‘bad boy’.
This further led him to praise Richard Childress’ grandson for being both a great teammate and a fierce competitor on the track.

Kyle Busch Reveals 3 Tracks Where Austin Dillon “Flat Out Outran” Him
Over the years, Kyle Busch has evolved from being one of the most polarizing drivers to being one of the most followed and adored ones. His brash self has become much more mature. And we would argue that is what led him to reveal 3 tracks where his teammate Austin Dillon simply outran him.
While he was already having a tough 2023 season, things went from bad to worse for Richard Childress’ grandson, Austin Dillon when he was caught by Austin Cindric who dipped into the left rear of the #3 Chevy, sending him into an unsuspecting Ricky Stenhouse Jr, ruining the day for both as they were soon deemed out of contention.
When Busch reflected on Dillion’s recent bad luck, the #8 driver also named 3 tracks where AD simply outran him.
It was Claire B. Lang of SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, who asked, “Now you have got 3 wins, people are starting to say, ‘Well, we thought Austin Dillon would learn from Kyle, or look how Kyle’s racing and Austin isn’t here yet’. Is it hard for him? And how do you boost him?”
To this, Busch replied, “You know, Austin has actually you know given his finishes probably not as good as he wants his finishes to be. But where he comes from in a race, starting deep in the field, he has had some unfortunate circumstances on Fridays and Saturdays to qualify well.”
“But he (Austin Dillon) flat-out out ran us at Bristol dirt, at Martinsville, at North Wilkesboro, you know the place with the low downforce stuff, that us on the #8 are struggling with.”
Furthermore, Busch shared how welcoming the team has been to him, with Dillon being a great teammate. Busch said, “I still think there’s time, and Austin’s fine, he’s a competitor, he’s got a lot going on behind the scenes as well but you know really enjoy working with him, he’s been a great teammate.”
Kyle Busch, later on, stated how he has been able to elevate his game as well as his Dillon’s, with him coming over to the Chevy team from Joe Gibbs Racing.

Busch said, “I would say he looked to me and wanted me to help elevate RCR and also help elevate himself you know, so I feel like I’m able to do both of those things,” he added. “I just don’t know that the results are necessarily indicative to Austin’s standards or maybe to some of our other standards and I think there’s still a work in progress on that front.”
