Kyle Busch continues his search for a fourth win this season. A dismal outing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ensured a 36th-place finish for Busch, who came into the race expecting much more from his team. After getting a solid start to the race, Busch had to bear an unfortunate mechanical failure that dragged him down to P36.
Reflecting on his outing at IMS, the two-time Cup Series champion let his unhappiness known through Twitter. Some of the blame for this has also been put on Richard Childress and Co. as they failed to come up with a consistent car yet again.

Kyle Busch has had a poor record of mechanical failures. Last season in the playoffs race in Kansas, Busch faced an engine failure. He had to bow out of the playoffs as a result and lost sight of the goal in his challenge for a third Cup Series title. In 2023, the problems have only continued.
Another engine failure at the Indianapolis road course has upset him deeply as he also loses ground in the battle for a regular season championship bid.
In this past Sunday’s race, Busch went as high as P4 in the second stage of the race and crossed the line at P6 after starting fifth alongside Kyle Larson. But another engine failure meant that he couldn’t maintain the pace and eventually lost positions till he dropped down so back that he lost a whole lap with it. Radio excerpts from the second stage show that he was experiencing more drag that forced the car to decelerate.
Tweeting about his day, he said, “ I just don’t know anymore,” implying that maybe he has given his best in the #8 RCR Camaro, but things don’t look like going his way. There is a good amount of credibility to that statement as well, as the car has shown to be problematic at many races and especially short tracks.
“Something’s slowing me down. I’ve got drag. Like, I don’t know what’s happening,” said Busch. This means that Busch goes home dejected for the second week straight. What makes his result even more tragic are the grave and worrisome remarks made by his crew chief, Randall Burnett.
I just don’t know anymore. 😔

The #8 crew chief Randall Burnett had highlighted some issues with their campaign so far prior to the race. With three wins this season, a casual fan of the sport would consider Busch to be a strong contender for the title, but surprisingly Burnett is the one that feels otherwise.
Since 2022, Burnett and Hendrick Motorsports‘ Rudy Fugle are tied for the most wins as a crew chief. That in fact adds more substance to his statement, especially considering his experience in winning races. “We don’t have the consistency on a weekly basis that I think we need to be a championship team right now,” said one of the most decorated crew chiefs in NASCAR, speaking to RACER.
“We’re working on that, discussing how to do things better to be a little more consistent and working to get our short track package better. Then we’ve got to clean up some execution things and make less mistakes. Make our days less eventful at times. I feel like we’ve had a lot of really good speed at a lot of places but we’ve kind of put ourselves behind the eight ball,” he added.

After hearing Burnett, it just seems the team has limited their potential with the engine failures and mechanical blunders which have stopped them from dominating the grid at all times.
