Kyle Busch has had a bittersweet relationship with the Daytona 500. Despite having competed in the Crown Jewel race since 2005, the driver has yet to clinch that elusive win. While he came painstakingly close to victory back in 2019 and then ultimately settled for second place, the majority of his runs at ‘The Great American Race’ haven’t lived up to the mark. This often leaves one wondering if he’s even destined to win that race despite being a two-time Cup Series champion. And 23XI racing driver Bubba Wallace recently revealed exactly that while discussing his lackluster run at the 2024 Daytona 500.
An incomplete dream for Kyle Busch?
23XI Racing recently paid a visit to the ‘Door Bumper Clear’ studio, where he discussed a myriad of things ranging from his performances to his teammates’. However, when confronted with the question of whether Kyle Busch would be deprived of the Harley J. Earl trophy forever, the #23 driver shared his honest take. According to him, some people are just not “chosen” to do some things, and sometimes luck is not in one’s favor no matter how much they try.

“Kyle’s been finishing these races and can’t do it. We have been finishing and can’t get it done. So it’s like he isn’t the chosen one type deal, so I am gonna say, spot on. It’s getting harder to win these things. It’s not a talent thing, it’s just the cards. You didn’t get the right deck of cards,” Bubba Wallace shared.
Bubba Wallace brought forward an interesting aspect regarding this. He claimed that it is not always a lack of talent that comes your way to achieve things. It’s far too complicated for that. At the same time, Bubba mentioned how Busch was finishing the races but still couldn’t win them. It was not like he did not finish them every time.

On-track brawls between NASCAR drivers are something well-heard of. However, some fights get too ugly to be left at the tracks. One such incident between Bubba Wallace and Kyle Busch in 2019 at Watkins Glen International hasn’t been solved yet.
During the 2019 Go Bowling at The Glen, William Byron, driving the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports car, made contact with Kyle Busch in Turn 1, causing Busch to spin out on Lap 2. Busch believed that the contact there was unnecessary and avoidable. A frustrated Kyle Busch made contact with Bubba Wallace on Lap 39, leading him to crash into the wall.

This did not end there, as both drivers bumped into each other’s cars another few times after seeking a payback in lap 62. Busch then pulled ahead, while Wallace caught No. 18’s backside, spinning him around. After the race, Bubba Wallace said, “That’s what happens when you get run over. You just pay him back. So I won’t be like, ‘Oh, it’s Kyle Busch; he didn’t mean to.'” However, an unbothered Busch cut it short, saying, “You saw what happened.”
It would be interesting to see if Bubba Wallace’s predictions come true. Or will Kyle Busch prove him wrong in the Daytona 500 next season?
