While NASCAR restarts are definitely some of the most action-packed and interesting in motorsport, they often come with chaos that can shake up the race standings dramatically. Although the restart action is beloved, it’s worth mentioning that the revamped restart zone as the Circuit of The Americas was a major point of discussion last year, with it resulting in a wreck that reversed NASCAR’s expectations from the change. However, the sport seems to have learned its lesson and is reverting to the old zoning, making Kyle Busch one happy man.

Kyle Busch is delighted as NASCAR’s decision eases pressure

When NASCAR introduced longer restart zone lengths, the intentions were to give the leader more control over the pack once the flag turned green. But it seemed to do the opposite, especially at COTA. The longer restart zone extended into the last corner, leaving many drivers tumbling into one another as they headed toward turn one. With that said, the 2024 season will witness a move back to the older layout. Kyle Busch shared what he thought of the change ahead of the race at Phoenix.

During the pre-race interviews, Kyle Busch was informed of the changes at COTA and was asked what he thought of them. Busch at first was a little confused about what exactly changed, but once the Richard Childress Racing driver was made aware, he was all for it. Busch stated, “So it’s not going into the last corner, it’s coming out? It’s back to the old restart zone is that it or is it before the turn? So it’s like Indy last year? Great, fantastic. Anything to give us more separation before Calamity Corner of turn one would certainly be beneficial with the group of crazies that we have. I almost said Kamikaze but I don’t know, is that allowed?”

With the changed restart zone beginning at the entry of the last turn, it would leave the cars bunched up together to the point of carnage as each driver tries to enter the following turn 1 with the best racing line. Now that the cars would have some breathing room, Busch couldn’t be happier. This will drastically eliminate the risk of the frontrunners getting collected by chain reactions triggered by those at the back of the pack.

While all eyes are on the Cup Series race in Phoenix this weekend, the change to the restart zone will prove good not just for frontrunners like Kyle Busch, but also for Jack Hawksworth, who makes his Truck Series debut at the Circuit of The Americas.

When we talk about some of IMSA’s top talent, no conversation is complete without the mention of Jack Hawksworth, reigning champion of the GTD Pro class as he takes Vasser Sullivan Lexus to the very top. The 33-year-old is now set to take the NASCAR world by storm as he makes his Truck Series debut with TRICON Garage at COTA at the end of the month.

Reflecting on his new venture into the world of NASCAR Hawksworth shared in a team statement, “The truck looks awesome. I’m looking forward to stepping back into the NASCAR world, working with the team leading up to the race weekend and then going out there and getting after it. COTA is a fun, technical track and one that should be challenging to tame a stock car at. A big thank you to everyone at TRD, Lexus, Mobil 1 and TRICON for making this possible. I can’t wait to get started!”

While the Lexus driver is no stranger to podiums and championships in IMSA, he is aiming to leave a lasting impression during his debut with Mobil 1 as his primary marketing partner. Hawksworth, who also ran in the NTT Indycar series for three seasons couldn’t be more excited at the prospect of bringing home a solid result in the Toyota Tundra belonging to TRICON garage.
