Last Sunday’s race at the Circuit of The Americas did not have a pleasant final stage. It required multiple late-race restarts, and three overtimes to achieve a green-white-checkered finish. In the wake of this event, Kyle Busch recently demanded to retire one of the sport’s well-known tracks. Surprisingly, several fans echoed his opinion.
It is no use denying how messy the race became last Sunday at COTA. It may have been dramatic and entertaining for a bit but later on, it brought nothing but chaos. Moreover, Busch seems to have had enough and has targeted to eliminate such events by filtering the tracks to be used.

Two years ago, NASCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials replaced the oval racing event with road course one. Busch was not in favor of it then and it doesn’t look like he is now. Back then, he had termed the road course venue as a “parking lot” and come to criticize it once again recently.
Speaking to Indianapolis Star on Saturday, the two-time Cup Series champion had a specific suggestion. He insisted that NASCAR should altogether ditch the race weekend in Indianapolis.
Furthermore, he continued his frustration with the use of a road course. He said, “But I don’t know why we ever went to the road course, to be honest with you. I don’t think it did an uptick or changed a damn thing at Indy. If we can’t do a good enough job getting enough people to Indy to suffice us staying on the oval, then we need to go somewhere else—just like anywhere.
“I’ll say that about any track.”

Fans support Kyle Busch’s argument that Indianapolis has lost its appeal
Trending
The story was posted on NASCAR’s official subreddit, along with the caption, “Kyle Busch: NASCAR should run IMS oval or skip the venue altogether.”
To this, NASCAR fans had a prompt and positive response to Busch’s comments. Some of them had valid reasons in support of his argument. A fan shared the similarities of the Indy road course to COTA, saying, “He’s not wrong. The Indy road course Turn 1 is basically COTA 2.0.”

Another said, “I agree. Honestly they could ditch it altogether and I wouldn’t be upset. NASCAR seems to be in a restructuring phase so maybe they should put their focus and energy somewhere else…”
Sharing a similar opinion, another fan stated, “I’m good with ditching it all together.”

One of the followers of the sport recalled the speedway’s President’s remarks, “From what the speedway president said this winter, it sounds like they might be going back to the oval for next year or at least having a rotation of both the oval and road course.”

It will be interesting to see what NASCAR makes of it given the demand by Busch and the fans. However, as a fan mentioned, it might be possible that the oval is back given what the track president had said earlier this year.
