For the first time since Rowdy changed lanes from the Toyota camp to his current team, Richard Childress Racing, Kyle Busch has had his first-ever pole position after a tough battle with the rest of the roster. The ‘bad boy’ will lead the rest of the pack with the Coca-Cola 600 winner, Ryan Blaney closely following the second spot.
Despite having a number of setbacks earlier due to the team’s inefficiency, Busch qualified for the race as he etched his name as the fastest, edging out others. As he gears up for the World Wide Technology Raceway at St Louis, Busch also revealed his team’s hard work that paved the way for his 137.187 mph average lap speed, making it his 33rd career pole start.
While the RCR camp is also bracing itself for the race tomorrow, Busch being Busch also disclosed the evident weakness of the RCR camp.

Kyle Busch gives away RCR’s apparent weakness just hours before his St Louis run
Despite clinching the win at the coveted Talladega Super Speedway, Kyle Busch and his #8 team have been plagued with inconsistency. While the driver tries to make the most out of his #8 Chevy, the car simply just doesn’t encourage the best out of Busch. And this has had the whole RCR camp in a vulnerable spot.
However, that is not the case anymore. After a stellar qualifying run, Busch emerged the fastest on the track, closely followed by Team Penske‘s Ryan Blaney. Busch edged out the #12 Mustang by a mere 0.008s to attain his first-ever pole position this season.
And finally ending his 4 season-long slump, the first ever since 2019 when he stole the pole position at Phoenix. During the press conference, a reporter asked how significant this was for the team. He said, “Yeah being able to get a pole here with Richard Childress Racing and Team Chevy. And everybody for this #8 car is good for us you know try to get some momentum rolling,”
Even as he underlines his team’s hard work, Busch being Busch also revealed his team’s chink in the armor as he cited the team’s inefficiency in short tracks, “You know our short track stuff hasn’t been the greatest this year so far but this isn’t the short track, Aero package here this weekend so that might pay dividends hopefully for us to just have a better day than what we anticipated so, I’m just excited to have the team pumped up.”
Furthermore, Busch credited his team and his crew chief, Randall Burnett, who worked extensively, tweaking the car to its fullest potential. Later on, Busch also shared how the race is special for his crew chief who grew up racing at the iconic Illinois track.
Busch also revealed another significance of the race, citing his crew chief’s lesser-known connection

The World Wide Technology Raceway in the city of Madison, Illinois, just east of St. Louis, is rather special for Busch’s crew chief, Burnett. Reflecting on this aspect of tomorrow’s race, Daniel from Fox 2 had to jump the gun, when he asked about his crew chief who raced plenty on the track, “Do you see that as any kind of advantage?”
Busch, on the other hand, mentioned his iron will and determination to win at any track. He said, “I don’t care where we’re at and I’m gonna win any week, you know. Anytime you can get one, you’ll take one.” Busch further focused on the home-ground advantage his team has. He said, “So I mean, anytime you have a home game, it certainly makes it a lot cooler.”

He then summed up his thoughts as he mentioned his crew chief, “I think Randall’s same way you know so working with him and being a part of this team and his leadership that he’s brought the last few years to the team but also with me being new this year has been really good and fun. So you know, I’m hoping for the best for us tomorrow and being able to lead the field to the green will be a good start of that.”
With just hours to the race, Busch’s pole position is certain to make a change. And with the team finding their lost rhythm, KB fans better not miss the race.
