Kyle Busch Exposes the Entire NASCAR Grid as He Slams the Authority’s Decision to the “Wrong Way”

From 1994 to 2020, the NASCAR Cup Series raced on the oval track at Indianapolis. Since then, the racing has taken place on the road course of the iconic track. Not only that, for the past three years, NASCAR and IndyCar have been racing on the same track on the same day, making the spectacle all the more exciting for fans of both sports. Despite the awe of the spectacle, there are drivers who prefer NASCAR and IndyCar to race on separate tracks at Indianapolis, while there are others who believe that NASCAR should go back to racing on the oval instead of the road course. One of these drivers is former NASCAR Cup Series champion and motorsport veteran Kyle Busch.

Rowdy had a decent qualifying run at the iconic track, as he is set to start from fifth place on the grid. This puts him in a great position to challenge for the win, which would be another feather in Busch’s illustrious cap. Ahead of the race, the Richard Childress Racing driver did a press conference, where he shared his views on NASCAR and IndyCar being on the same weekend and on the same track.

According to Kyle Busch, drivers, and crew chiefs prefer the Indianapolis Oval 

A reporter from the media personnel gathered asked Busch, “The last three years, IndyCar and NASCAR have been at the same track racing at the same time. Are you a fan of the weekend? Have you enjoyed it?”

Before expressing his personal opinion on the matter, Rowdy did acknowledge the fact that the joint weekend at Indianapolis was unique and that he had enjoyed it.

“Yeah, I would say so. I think it’s pretty cool—kind of unique,” he said.

He then added that, despite it being a unique event in motorsport, he and some of the other drivers and crew chiefs would have liked it better if they could race on the oval rather than the road course.

“But you know, if I’m being selfish, I think many of us drivers, crews and everything else, we’d rather be coming here and racing around the oval with the prestige and the history of what the oval is,” Rowdy said.

“Even though we’re at Indy, it just doesn’t really feel like it’s the same thing going the wrong way,” he concluded.

While Kyle Busch might not be that big of a fan of the IndyCar-NASCAR double header weekend, former Formula One driver Jenson Button believes that it is a great idea that can be implemented in Formula One itself.

Ahead of the Indianapolis race, Jenson Button was asked about his thoughts on a joint weekend by NASCAR and IndyCar, and the former F1 world champion said that he was more than impressed.

“Well, the fans will get more bang for their buck, You know, watching two great series, and then you have obviously the feeder series, the junior series. and obviously Xfinity Series, so it’s a lot of race to go for a race weekend,” he said.

Button also added that F1 could do something similar with NASCAR in the future, which would keep fans interested and bring a different fanbase to stock car racing as well.

“I would love to see other categories doing the same thing, you know, seeing a NASCAR race on an F1 weekend, for example. I think it just brings in a different fan base. and, why not, you know?”

Button is one of the three ‘outsiders’ that will take part in the Cup Series race at Indianapolis. Kamui Kobayashi and Shane Van Gisbergen are the other two. While these racers will not be fighting for points, a win at Indianapolis is an incredible achievement for any motorsports athlete, and fans can be certain that they will not let it go without a proper fight.
