During the NASCAR LIVE podcast, Chris Wilner brought up the contrast between the current season and the previous year, which was marked by external factors like contracts and playoffs. He inquired about the mental clarity for the current year, considering that those issues were in the past and a fresh start was underway for the post-season.
The 2009 Xfinity Series Champion stated, “This year feels way easier way better just you know more clear having a clear picture of finishing out the year here going into next year the year after that whatever so just having good opportunities to be able to go work with my team and having Randall (Randall Burnett- crew chief) and everybody you know on on the side to lean off of and work together with has been really great.”
Busch further added, “You know last year unfortunately the playoffs didn’t start off well for us we got eliminated in the first round due to engine failures but you know that’s racing that’s a part of racing you know you can’t have those sorts of mistakes and those sorts of things happen this time of year or you’ll be playing way too much catch-up and there is no catch-up in this day and age with everything being so tight being so close you’re not gonna drive a car as hard as you want from 15th to 5th it’s just not gonna happen.”
Busch’s statement is emblematic of the broader change sweeping through NASCAR, signaling a significant departure from previous eras where adroit drivers could craftily compensate for lost time using slipstreams and drafting. Today’s next-gen cars and their dynamics have made it incredibly tough, making races more unpredictable and intense. Is NASCAR losing its soul in the quest for higher stakes and tighter races? Kyle Busch’s revelation makes us question what’s been lost in the new age of stock car racing.
