As the engines rev up for Watkins Glen, one moment from the first playoff race remains burned in our minds—a heart-stopping incident that sent shockwaves through the NASCAR world. Kyle Larson, known for his smooth precision behind the wheel, was driving like any other day when, in the blink of an eye, disaster struck. No contact, no warning—just a sudden, violent collision with the outer wall. And as if things couldn’t get worse, Chase Briscoe came barreling in, finishing off both drivers’ races in a brutal crash that had fans on the edge of their seats.
Kyle Busch, who narrowly missed his shot at the Top 16, sat down with NASCAR’s YouTube channel to break down the chaos. In typical Busch fashion, he didn’t hold back, sharing his thoughts on the freak crash and giving insight into what makes Larson tick. According to Busch, Larson’s secret weapon is none other than crew chief Clifton Daniels, who, as Busch joked, seems to sprinkle a little “Magic Fairy Dust” on Larson’s car each week, making it run like a dream.
But this was no dream—this was a nightmare that ended with two contenders sidelined, and Larson’s playoff hopes shaken. As we head into Watkins Glen, the question on everyone’s mind is whether Larson can bounce back or if this crash was just the beginning of more playoff drama to come. NASCAR fans, buckle up—it’s going to be a wild ride.

Kyle Busch reveals Kyle Larson’s secret to a perfect car
Kyle Larson is having one of the best seasons among all the drivers. To add to that, he was also deemed the best driver in the world being compared to the likeness of F1 great Max Verstappen. His car plays a huge role in this, and judging from what happened in Atlanta, it’s clear that there was something up with the No. 5.
Shannon Spake, one of the speakers on the podcast, reflected on the Atlanta race and asked Kyle Busch if he knew what it was like to go through a crash like Larson did. In response to that, the 2-time Cup Series Champion said it’s “not good.”
Busch then shared a story from the time he went through a similar experience, saying, “I’ve had a wreck like that before; it was a practice crash at, uh, Daytona. Our sway bar came loose, and it punctured the right rear tire. It snapped loose, I overcorrected, hit the wall.” Calling the hit vicious, he explained that it hurts quite a bit to undergo the G force.
Kyle Busch was surprised that Larson could make it to his radio as fast as he did to announce, “Yeah, I think something broke.” Revealing Larson’s secret to success, Busch stated, “Kyle’s so used to his stuff driving great all the time because it’s perfect always”

He went ahead to say, “Cliff Daniels has got the little magic fairy dust that goes on that car each week, and, uh, apparently, they didn’t sprinkle enough on it this week because he was loose.” There is no such thing as magic dust, but Daniels is known to make sure that Larson has the best possible drive, and until Atlanta, he has been consistent with it.
Chase Briscoe was caught in the aftermath of the crash and he couldn’t continue the race. Luckily, both were uninjured from the incident, and here is what Larson had to say about the crash.

The crash had everyone at the edge of their seats until Larson responded, saying that he was okay. He was taken to the infield care center and after his examination, he made his way back to his team. Before that, Larson spoke about his horrific experience in the car as he said, “Thankfully everything held up well inside of the car.”

He acknowledged that it was a huge hit and explained that he was not sure what caused it. Larson revealed, “I was actually sort of like tight-loaded in the corner. That was pretty far out the corner, and he stepped out. I don’t know. It just all happened really fast.”
We cannot blame him for not understanding what went wrong with the car because it could be caused by many factors. Being thrown into the outer wall is no joke, and between the wall and Chase Briscoe crashing into him, Larson’s car was quite busted up.
Because of the condition of the car, it was hard to pinpoint what exactly went wrong, and after the hit that Larson took, it has many fans wondering about the safety of the next generation of cars. So far, there has not been a major fatal accident.
