Depending on who you ask, what ‘should’ve happened’ in the Noah Gragson–Ross Chastain altercation at Kansas would be a different thing. Some would say it shouldn’t have happened, some would say it had to happen. As for Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch, they’re of the latter opinion.

Elliott made his opinion on the whole thing immediately clear as he was heard saying in a video uploaded on YouTube, “Somebody’s gotta do it” moments after Gragson and Chastain were separated. In fact, Gragson claimed it was the #9 driver and “other guys” who essentially pushed him to “beat his a**.”

As for Busch, he had a more elaborate opinion on the whole subject.

Kyle Busch opens up on “the most frustrating” Ross Chastain

Speaking ahead of the race in Darlington, Busch opened up on his issues with “the most frustrating one” Ross Chastain. He claimed it’s so infuriating because Chastain doesn’t seem to learn “a single lesson or any bullet point” about the problem considering he has incidents with other drivers “every single week.”

“There’s a common denominator. And he’s got an aggressive style,” Busch added. “Well we’re all aggressive to a point because we’re all going to push hard and try to make runs; get spots, get good finishes, things of that nature.”

As for what happened between Chastain and Gragson, Busch wondered, “did that need to happen,” before sharing his take on why it should’ve been someone else instead of the rookie to instigate the confrontation.

“Noah obviously wanted to show his frustration and I think Noah had a somewhat similar philosophy as I did, where it’s like the same guy all the time. I’m not going to take that crap and go up to him and confront him,” he explained.

Having said that, Busch claimed the security should’ve waited for 10 more seconds before stepping in. “You let one guy get a hell of a hit and then you block the other guy from getting a hit back. At least let the guy try and then maybe get one in,” he reasoned.
