There is only one goal at present – to get Rowdy back. Kyle Busch has been on a 57-race winless streak since Gateway in 2023. The 2024 season witnessed the two-time Cup Series champion set some unfortunate records – like breaking his 19-year glorious win streak or finishing outside the top 15 in championship standings for the first time since 2005. And Busch is not willing to give up any more of the old fire – which is already depleting.
The 2024 season wrapped up back in November, but Kyle Busch has been heavily engaged in the off-season. From attending his son’s races at Tulsa to making a solid Chili Bowl Nationals debut, the champion has not detached himself from racing. Now, Busch has even revived his Legends career – in the hope that his earlier exploits would return.

Even before his NASCAR debut in 2004, Kyle Busch had a solid resume. He left big marks in the ARCA Menards Series and the ASA Standings, yet his glory started as a teenager. He had kicked off his racing career in Legends cars at age 13. Along with 65 Legend Cars victories, Busch also won two Legend Cars championships at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This paved the path to a glittering NASCAR career where Busch picked up 231 victories till the present day. However, his Cup Series streak ran into a dead end recently. So Busch is going back to his roots to breathe new life into his past ‘Rowdy’ form.
Kyle Busch took the wheel of a Legends car recently – and the huge gap after which he did so made his family’s jaws drop. The last time he wheeled it was “22 years ago…in 2003,” to which Busch’s wife Samantha gasped, “I didn’t know it was that long! …Have you practiced on Sim or anything?” Busch replied, “Yeah, Brex and I raced each other and kicked his a–.” The cameraperson was curious about the impact of Busch’s long break and how different the cars feel. But the champion was optimistic: “I don’t think that they’re that much different, but probably a little bit different.”

However, the doubts still lingered in Kyle Busch’s head. During his sprint car racing debut at the Chili Bowl Nationals, the champ started off with a bang. In just the third heat of the night, he rocketed from 7th to 2nd place. Then in F-Main, he clinched another podium finish – however, he finished the F-Main event with a 15th-place finish.
Similarly, Busch was a little jittery about his Legends return. Samantha had a lofty goal for him: “You’re starting last, there’s 12 cars. What’s our goal? I say 5th.” Yet Busch was not so sure: “Pass’em one at a time… I don’t have a clue what I am doing there right now.” Eventually, Busch could finish 8th and was pretty chuffed about it as he pumped his fist in the air and said, “Yeah! Eight!”
Kyle Busch is thoroughly motivated to dig up his past glory. His Richard Childress Racing teammate also sees a positive sign of growth.

Uplifting Busch through tough times
Trending
Throughout the 2024 season, the narratives turned more and more bitter about Kyle Busch. People are beginning to doubt his prowess in NASCAR. The seasoning opening Bowman Gray Clash did not paint a pretty picture either. Busch overcame numerous wrecks during qualifying and washed up 15th at the Clash. However, there are a few people who still retain hope in Rowdy. Busch is, after all, the winningest NASCAR driver of all time, with his 102 Xfinity wins and 66 Craftsman Truck wins being all-time records. So it may be just a matter of time before his sprint car and Legends cars races work and Busch clinches his 64th Cup Series race victory.
That is what his teammate Austin Dillon hinted at recently. The No. 3 Chevrolet driver has watched Kyle Busch work hard to revive his glorious form. “I think, you know, Kyle is learning a lot. I think over the couple years that he’s been with us on, I think he’s a happier person. Personally, I like being around Kyle. He obviously is the same when it comes to hating to run bad, or not up to his standard. And his standard is as high as it gets. He’s a champion of our sport. So for us at RCR, we just have to put maximum effort in every week to deliver the best product.” Busch has not given up my any means and if Dillon’s comments are anything to go by, Rowdy is ready for a comeback season in 2025.
