It currently looks like the Richard Childress Racing and Kyle Busch honeymoon period is winding up. Since the start of the season, cracks have been forming in the relationship as the mistakes pile up. No question about it, Busch has been pretty quick during the races but has almost always encountered rotten luck.

Most of his woes centered around his pit crew, who often botched his pit stops. Now, ahead of the Cup race at the Bristol Motor Speedway, RCR wants to remedy this with a pit crew shuffle. Obviously, they want to give the #8 driver the best chance to try and snatch a Cup win and reach the playoffs. It got to a point where even Richard Childress himself got annoyed at the team and wanted them to buck up.

How is RCR combating the issues for Kyle Busch?

As per reports, Busch’s jackman for the Daytona 500, Josh Sobecki, will resume his role once again. Another returnee is Michael Russell, who is the front changer, and he was given a break at the Phoenix Raceway. Meanwhile, Shiloh Windsor will switch from a front changer to a rear tire changer at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Hopefully, for the 2-time Cup champion’s sake, the team will finally become a well-oiled machine.

Even during that famous finish at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch had to come from the rear. Las Vegas was the last straw because he dropped from 2nd all the way down the order to 26th place. Considering that this was home turf, the result was all the more gutting. It didn’t get better at Phoenix, though, as the #8 RCR car was woefully off the pace.

NASCAR fans believe that the pit crew is half the issue

However, some fans were not convinced that the blame lay solely on the pit crew’s shoulders. As per one response, “All this to finish 25th cause RCR’s short track package is embarrassing”.

Another pointed out that the constant pit crew changes could even backfire. They said, “Bruh y’all gotta stop changing the crew every time and let them actually get reps in”.

Another fan joked that it may soon come to a stage where Busch will go full Thanos. In essence, he would simply think, ‘Fine, I’ll do it myself‘ and change his tires on his own. Funnily enough, this has actually happened before, when Morgan Shepherd got out of his truck during a 2001 race. Apparently, he changed his tires and sat on the pit wall with a snack and drink before resuming the race. Coming back to Kyle Busch, though, some believed that the RCR car was not as competitive as they would like to think.
