During the latter half of last season, the NASCAR world was left in shock when it was revealed that Kurt Busch had suffered a head injury in the accident at the Pocono Raceway. The aftermath saw him suffer concussion-like symptoms which led him to opt out of the remainder of the season. What followed was an emotional speech by the veteran driver, where he announced his retirement from full-time racing.
However, ever since, there have been questions about what would be Busch’s role be around 23XI Racing. Even his former teammate, Bubba Wallace recently mentioned that he wasn’t clear about Busch’s job title.

Amidst the confusion, Busch’s replacement at 23XI Racing Tyler Reddick recently cleared the air. In an Instagram video, Reddick spoke about Busch and his exact role in the team.
He said, “All offseason long he’s really taken on a really good role inside the team. Helping myself coming over to the team. Getting to know, you know all the partners… Sharing information helping me with that and then you know just doing everything he can to help push the needle in the right direction.”
Tyler Reddick calls Kurt Busch a mentor
In the same video, Reddick was asked if Busch was playing a mentorship role for him. The 23XI Racing import promptly replied that it was true. Furthermore, he went on to explain how Busch had been helping him out with everything.
Reddick stated that Kurt Busch has been a valuable asset during his off-season preparations. Busch apparently also attended the tire test at Austin, COTA. Moreover, he was meticulous in his observations, seeking out every possible advantage. He later attended the organizational test at Phoenix and gathered additional information. According to Reddick, he has been relying heavily on Busch’s insights and expertise for his transitional role as Busch’s replacement driver.

With Busch’s guidance, one can expect Reddick to make use of his experience in his upcoming season with his new team. Based on his overall performance last year with Richard Childress Racing, it can be said that Reddick is primed to make a big impact on the track with 23XI Racing.
