In November 2005, Kurt Busch was involved in a DUI incident in Maricopa County, Arizona. Busch was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence. The deputy noted the smell of alcohol on his breath. When the authorities asked him to participate in the standard field sobriety tests, he refused to do so and was eventually cited for reckless driving.
The horrors didn’t end there, as that incident became the reason he got fired from Roush Racing. Lucky for him, Kurt Busch was already looking to join Team Penske for 2006, so it didn’t affect him all that much. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t have to do community service for 50 hours. Although it’s been around 2 decades since that incident, you must be wondering why we are bringing it up now. That’s because Kurt Busch found himself in a similar situation a month ago, where he was caught for DUI.

This time what happened is that Kurt Busch was pulled over for speeding and was found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.17. That number happens to be over twice the legal limit, and that was not a good sign. He was charged with DWI, careless and reckless driving, and speeding.
To add to that, Busch’s driver’s license was revoked for 30 days, with him scheduled to appear in court on September 19, 2024. Making the situation slightly better, Busch issued a public apology, expressing his disappointment in himself and apologizing to his family, racing family, and fans.
One NASCAR fan noticed that Kurt Busch has been inactive on social media, and that led them to put up a post on Reddit asking, “Is Kurt Busch okay?” Giving more details on their question, they mentioned, “He hasn’t posted anything on his media ever since he got caught for a DUI over a month ago, and I see no mention of him anywhere else.”
The fan’s concern is evident, and they were not the first ones to notice this. Other fans who have been keeping up with Busch also saw a decline in the former driver’s online presence, and they soon made their way to the comment section.
Fans discuss Busch’s lack of internet presence
Fans have been weighing in on Kurt Busch’s recent social media silence following his DUI incident, and the reactions are pretty telling. One fan mentioned, “Laying low isn’t a bad way to go after a high-profile DUI,” and honestly, that’s probably the smartest move he could make. After something as serious as this, it’s no surprise that Busch is keeping a low profile, especially, considering the intense scrutiny public figures often face.
Another fan brought up an important point, saying, “I mean, he has a court date next Friday, so we might hear something. Hopefully, he is okay.” It’s clear there’s some genuine concern for Busch’s well-being, and fans are waiting to see how things unfold. With his court date approaching, there’s a sense that the situation might become clearer soon, but until then, staying out of the spotlight could be his way of dealing with everything.

Then there’s a fan who perfectly captured the sentiment of lying low, stating, “What do you want him to say? If I’m a public figure and get a DUI, I’m not coming within 100 feet of social media.” It’s a fair point—jumping into the online conversation right now might just stir things up more. When you’re in the public eye, sometimes the best thing to do is just step back and let things cool down.
Of course, some fans couldn’t resist adding a bit of humor to the situation. One joked, “You want him to let us know how it’s affecting his world tour?” It’s a light-hearted way of saying that maybe not every detail needs to be shared, especially when it comes to something as serious as a DUI.

Interestingly, despite his online absence, Busch hasn’t completely disappeared from the scene. A fan noted, “Pretty sure I saw him at the Michigan race that Reddick won; that was after the DUI. I think there’s videos that show him in VL talking to Denny.” So while Busch might be avoiding social media, he’s still making appearances, just under the radar. It seems like he’s choosing to keep things quiet until everything blows over, which, given the circumstances, might be the best call.
