Former NASCAR Cup Series driver Kurt Busch reportedly pleaded guilty to Driving While Impaired for an incident dating back to August. Busch was accused of driving home drunk, and when the cops administered a breath test on him, they found out that he had a BAC of.17, which is twice the legal limit in the state of North Carolina.
Not only that, according to court records, Busch was also found to be overspeeding by driving 63 mph in a 45 mph zone in Iredell County. Although the former 23XI Racing driver had apologized to his fans for the misconduct, it didn’t help his case in court.

In exchange for the guilty plea, the prosecutors reportedly agreed to drop the reckless driving and speeding charges he was initially facing in the case. However, Busch wasn’t let off the hook entirely as he received a 60-day suspended jail sentence for 12 months. During that year-long time frame, Kurt Busch will be on unsupervised probation.
As part of the sentence, Busch will have to complete 24 hours of community service and pay a community service fee. He will have to surrender his driving license, which casts a shadow on his racing plans within the sentence period. However, the report did state that the driver can come back and apply for limited driving privileges. These details emerge in a exclusive report from TMZ.
Before the ruling came, Busch had already accepted his wrongdoing by sharing this on social media: “I’m very disappointed in myself, and I apologize to my family, my racing family, and to my fans. I will work with the authorities to rectify the situation and work with the county to make it a safer place in the future.”

Busch never returned to racing after he suffered a concussion in a crash on July 23, 2022, at Pocono Raceway. At his home track in Las Vegas, he announced his retirement from full-time racing. A special farewell event was arranged for him during the 2023 Daytona 500 race. This event was attended by NASCAR executives, fellow drivers, and his brother Kyle.
Since his retirement, he’s taken on a new role as a consultant at 23XI Racing, but his presence at the racetracks has been few and far. However, going by his updates on social media, it looked like he certainly was making the most of his retirement. He posted about his fishing trips and hiking; he even turned up to support 23XI Racing this year at the Chicago Street race.

However, if he had any plans of getting back on the racetrack, those might need to be put on hold given the current situation. There is a chance he could be cleared for certain races, but again, nothing can be said for certain. Let us hope the 2017 Daytona 500 champion gets back on track and announces a few races that his fans are eagerly waiting for.
