Kurt Busch’s win on Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, though surprising, was a long time in the making. Busch’s relief after winning on his home track was highly evident in his post-race comments. The older Busch brother now boasts of 32 career wins in his NASCAR career.
He has won many races at numerous iconic tracks; 14 of his 32 wins came during the purple patch of 2002-2005, during which he also won the 2004 Cup Series title. Busch also has a Daytona 500 win from three years ago.
Despite all these laurels, Busch admitted that his latest win ranks right up there with the biggest achievements of his NASCAR career. This is because a Vegas win has been on Busch’s to-do list for over 20 years now, and it took 22 tries to finally check that box.

Where Kurt Busch rates his Las Vegas win
“It’s right there underneath Daytona, underneath the championship back in 2004. Any time you win, it’s special,” Kurt Busch said after the race.
“But to do it in front of my hometown crowd. And nobody was there and all the people that I see every time I come to Vegas and I get to say thank you and I can’t right now, that’s the hardest part. So this one is easily ramping up to being my third most favorite win ever,” he added.
While it will go down as his third-favorite win, Busch wants to live in the present, where it is his favorite win.

Proud moment for the Busch family
“Right now it’s my favorite because it’s here, it’s Vegas, and I have so many people to thank. They know they helped me, and they know who they are. And it just all started with mom and dad taking me to the racetrack right here at the Bullring in Las Vegas,” he said further.

Busch had a big part to play in nurturing and guiding his younger brother Kyle in his formative years in racing. A two-time Cup Series winner, Kyle also spoke about his brother’s win. He said that his sibling has now checked everything off the list of big achievements in the sport.
Kurt Busch now takes on the challenge that is the Talladega Superspeedway and The Roval at Charlotte, having already secured his place in the next round.
