Ever since Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin announced Bubba Wallace as the driver for their new team, they made it clear that the goal, is to win. Jordan expressed that desire more than once in his comments following the signing of the historic deal.
Speaking just before the Las Vegas race on Sunday, Wallace revealed that in a chat he had with Jordan, the message was clear from the NBA legend. He expects Wallace to produce victories soon enough.
However, NASCAR veteran and the latest winner of a NASCAR Cup Series race, Kurt Busch believes Wallace may have to wait for his and the new team’s maiden Cup win.

“I think they’ll win in their second year. It’ll be tough to win in that first year,” Busch said, speaking after his Las Vegas win.

Why Busch believes Bubba Wallace will not win in 2021
Busch said that it isn’t easy to develop a new team and produce race wins right away. At the same time, he feels the new unnamed team has a model they can learn from. The 42-year-old highlighted the example of the now shut Furniture Row Racing. Martin Truex Jr. won the 2017 championship with Furniture Row Racing.
“That’s the process of developing the program. The Furniture Row guys proved that you can do it as an independent team. It’s out there, the template is out there. They just have to plug in the right puzzle pieces,” Busch said further.

Hamlin himself said recently that he wishes to learn from the Joe Gibbs Racing model, his current team.
“For us, it’s gonna take time to build this team to where it needs to be. I feel that we have a great opportunity and have great resources to do that. These things don’t happen overnight. It takes time,” he said.
“The good news is I’ve kind of watched how Joe and his kids have built JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) over the last 15 years. You’ve got someone there who you can really model yourself after,” Hamlin added.

Busch made a quite realistic assessment of how quickly Bubba Wallace can win a race. But the 26-year-old will certainly be on a warpath to prove the assessment wrong.
