It was NASCAR Journalist Bob Pockrass who wrote on Twitter, “Grand marshals for the all-star race will be Richard Petty and Darrell Waltrip. … fyi haven’t gotten the format yet but expecting an event that would be 200 laps or so.” Fans were ecstatic with the comeback of the racetrack and now this information has only added to their excitement.

A lot of them shared their thoughts in the comments. With seven-time Cup Series champion Richard Petty and three-times champion Darrell Waltrip, fans have some more suggestions about who they would like to see. A fan even suggested Jeff Gordon be invited there as he was the winner at the last Cup Series race at the venue in September 1996. Check out what the fans had to say.

“I’d rather see The King leading the field on the pace laps and refuse to duck into the pits again, myself.”

“HELL YEAH”

“I’m glad it’s NASCAR legends instead of a basketball player who has never seen a race.”

“I’m surprised Gordon wasn’t invited as a marshal, having won the last Cup race at NWB. But I do like the choices of Waltrip and Petty.”

“Good chance they may have Gordon driving the pace car or waving the green flag”

To this, someone replied, “Either of those would still be nice choices. I’d just hate to think he wouldn’t want to be a public figure towards ringing in the new era of the track.”

“One of em should be Jr too”“Dale should be the only anything for this race. Everyone else was fine with the track dying.”
