Stewart-Haas Racing has not had the best of seasons this year. The Tony Stewart-Gene Haas-owned outfit has struggled to create an impact in the Cup Series despite fielding 4 strong cars including that of Chase Briscoe and Ryan Preece. The latest blow to the team came when its top-man Kevin Harvick crashed out of the playoffs. Having not much left to fight for this year, the team has just been trying to get the best out of the remaining races.

As they approached the playoff race at the Talladega Superspeedway, one of Tony Stewart’s worries was regarding the liveries of the #14 and #41 Fords. However, Chase Briscoe had a solution, coming straight from Hollywood.

The solution that came for Stewart was from the driver of his #14 car, Chase Briscoe. The 28-year-old’s idea had been to recreate the cars from the famous Hollywood flick, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Loving the concept, the team decided to go ahead with it and revealed the news to the fans a few days back.

But the slight snag in the well-thought-out plan was that the images of the movie-inspired cars were leaked on social media before the official announcement, bringing down the excitement slightly. Appearing on the “Rubbin’ is Racing” podcast, Briscoe spoke to the hosts about the idea and revealed his disappointment with the leak.

Disclosing how he’d gone on Reddit after last weekend’s race in Texas and found the leaked images on Reddit, he said, “We had been doing everything we could to hide it. We wanted it to be like totally off the record. Nobody would see it coming. We had the cars at the shop and they were always covered up. Where you couldn’t see any part of them other than literally just the very front of the car. And when that got leaked, it did kind of I think take a little wind out of the sales. […] But yeah it’s kind of a bummer. But we can’t control. I think they said an employee, I guess, saw it and took a picture of it and posted online.”

Come Sunday, we will be seeing Preece in his #41 Mustang with the white-blue Wonder Bread paint, an ode to Ricky Bobby’s car in the film and Briscoe will ride his #14 with the Old Spice red-blue theme. Regardless of the season’s downfall or the media leak, Tony Stewart’s younger drivers have been busy entertaining themselves and the fans, even if it was only outside the track.

Piling on the hits that Tony Stewart was taking this year was the crash that Ryan Preece had been involved in at the Daytona International Speedway. Though the driver escaped unscathed, the amount of pressure on Stewart was humongous. The impending departure of one of his veteran drivers, Aric Almirola, is also something that he has to deal with. As he feels his troubles cornering him, Briscoe and Preece have been busy trying their best to provide some laughs to the fans.

Apart from just painting their cars in the colors from the movie, the drivers have also gone towards shooting skits for social media. Talking about their “Talladega Nights” recreations, Preece said, “It’s just been a lot of fun, to be honest with you. We’ve been able to do a lot of different skits. When it comes to social media, obviously, it’s something that people are on constantly, and it’s created an opportunity for us to kind of show our personalities and really get into the movie. I’m pretty pumped about some of the stuff we actually shot earlier, and that’s going to come out here in the next day or so. So we’re gonna give people some laughs.”

Ryan Preece currently sits at the 25th position in the driver standings table and Briscoe at the 30th. Despite his strong performance at Texas, the latter ended up finishing at P10. Going to Talladega, they will be hoping that some of the Hollywood charm rubs off on them and their cars take one of them to the victory lane.
