Ever since its inception in 2020, 23XI Racing has become one of the most popular teams in the Cup Series. While NBA great, Michael Jordan’s team has helped bring drivers like Kurt Busch, Tyler Reddick, and John Hunter Nemechek closer to the fans, their #23 driver Bubba Wallace still arguably has a tricky relationship with the NASCAR Faithful. And now, despite regaining his form after multiple setbacks earlier this season, Wallace’s decent performances have been overshadowed by his recent fiasco with the veteran Stewart-Haas Racing driver, Aric Almirola at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Ahead of his Sonoma road course race, the Alabama native opened up to SiriusXM Radio bluntly, as he pointed out the evident discrimination against him.
As the immature act of showing the bird to Almirola has created a wildfire of criticism against the #23 driver, even his team co-owner, Denny Hamlin expressed his displeasure, deeming it “childish” and “out of style.”

Bubba Wallace Points Out the Evident Double Standards in NASCAR
Despite coming back to form with back-to-back impressive performances at Darlington and Coca-Cola 600, Bubba Wallace has shot himself in the foot with a rather immature act on the track.
During an intense Cup Series race at Charlotte, Wallace showed the middle finger to his fellow driver, Aric Almirola, which triggered the SHR driver to confront Wallace on the pit road with some strong words. While the community expressed its displeasure online, the #10 driver furiously shoved Wallace after confronting him.
This rather minor stint did not sit well with Wallace’s boss. Hamlin came out with his thoughts on the incident and the JGR driver being the honest man he is, had sharp words for his driver. Wallace, on the other hand, has expressed his sincere thoughts and vows to stop the “childish” act while he pointed out the apparent prejudice against him.

On SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, he vividly expressed his frustration, “People think that I love to stay in the headlines for different reasons and I actually hate it. You know it’s funny how it works out.”
“The finger becomes such a big thing when Bubba Wallace does it. But you have guys that get wrecked, get dumped on the track and they walk on the track and shoot one bird or shoot the double-bird and we laugh about it and move on. We tell them they are number one.”
“But when Bubba Wallace does it, we gotta shut the whole state down, shut the whole series down, kick him out, suspend him. So, on that side of things, it’s complete BS,” added Wallace.
Seeing the consequences of his recent actions, he also said, “100%, I need to stop doing it. It is not a good look, right?”

The grueling Coca-Cola 600 certainly had several dramatic episodes. One not-so-fine was obviously between Bubba and Almirola that happened on the track, which then led to the pit road shoving incident.
Seeing this, and the crowd’s response, his boss, Denny Hamlin, simply deemed his driver’s action “out of style” while he explained his notion to his co-host, Jared Allen.

Speaking on his super popular, Action Detrimental podcast, the 23XI Racing co-owner said, “As his car owner, I don’t love it at all,” Hamlin said. “I mean, just keep your hands in your car. Just stop it. You’ve got some positive momentum on the racetrack. Let’s just chill for a little while and, you know, just take the dubs when you get them, and that’s running well.”
Hamlin further added, “It’s out of style. Everyone needs — whoever still does it, needs to stop because it’s out of style. Stop doing it. It’s childish. It’s just not worth it.”
Hearing Wallace’s concluding thoughts on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio it seems he has respectfully heeded his boss’s words, promising to drop the attitude.
