They don’t make drivers like Kevin Harvick anymore. For a guy who has won the NASCAR Cup Series championship, he is known for being humble, tied to his roots, and always keen to learn new things. Harvick was one of the few who represented the golden era boys, while also adapting to the new wave of drivers. Announcing his retirement from Stewart-Haas Racing he certainly has left a big void that might not even fill in. For Harvick, he has never been shy of a new pursuit, and his role as a NASCAR pundit does signify that.

While he may not be seen racing on the track next year, Harvick’s voice and engagement with the series will stay intact. A new job is certainly an alien territory and one sure needs all the help they can get. In the case of Harvick, his former teammates did have one or two pointers that would help ease him into his new role.

Work on the little details was the message by Harvick’s former teammates

Kevin Harvick is all set to join the Fox Sports booth in a full-time role for the 2024 Cup Series. He will be partnered by Mike Joy and Clint Bowyer in the booth, thus forming a solid trio of announcers. Taking onto his new role, his former teammates from SHR had a word of advice for him. Needless to say, they followed it up with some banter.

All of the SHR drivers were speaking to Fox NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass. Starting the suggestion streak was Chase Briscoe who said, “I would say make sure you do all the details right. He’s really good at doing all the little things right and putting in the extra effort”.

Adding a banter element to the advice, Ryan Preece suggested the Fox team ask him a lot of questions. Preece said, “Ask him a lot of questions. No, I’m serious ask him a lot of questions. I feel like he’s going to lost without me asking so many questions throughout the year. So I feel like somebody’s got to do it.” Harvick who was present for an answer replied to the idea by Preece, he said, “I don’t mind questions as long as they have a point. Usually, I get frustrated pretty quickly and I wind up giving you short answers and tell you to quit asking questions.”

But the good part about Harvick taking up his role of analyst at Fox booth is that he will be reuniting with his former teammate.

Harvick and Bowyer served as teammates twice in their Cup careers. The first one was at Richard Childress Racing from 2005 – 11. Bowyer then left for Michael Waltrip Racing but soon reunited with Harvick after MWR shut down. He found his way at Stewart-Haas Racing as a replacement for Tony Stewart. Bowyer did hang his boots from racing in 2020 while Harvick kept at it for another three years.

Some bonds and friendships are never meant to be lost. This phrase justifies the bond of the two Cup drivers now turned analysts. Bowyer said as per a Forbes report, “I can’t get rid of him. The better part of my career was alongside Kevin. When I came into the upper ranks of NASCAR, Kevin was the first person I knew in the NASCAR world. I don’t know how we always find each other, but here we are.
