Earlier, Kevin Harvick appeared on the Dale Jr Download for a chat with his former rival. Among other topics, he spoke about the Next Gen cars. While the response to the cars has been largely positive, there have been a few concerns trickling in, here and there. The Stewart-Haas driver made some interesting observations and declared that things could be frustrating in 2022.
He said, “It’s going to be frustrating for sure. The gas pedal doesn’t even work right, there’s so many things. Everything on the car works different. The pedals are different, the feel of it is different, my seat’s the same. My steering wheel’s the same, the dash is the same, and the stuff I wear is the same. Everything else is different.”
Kevin Harvick also spoke about the prospect of his retirement

Of course, the soon-to-be 46-year-old will be facing a few questions about retirement soon. Some were worried that the advent of the Next Gen car could be the key element that could push him towards hanging up his boots. Dale Earnhardt Jr cited the example of Rusty Wallace, who tried to push his career as long as he could. When he finally did stop for good, he had some regrets because he felt that he still had a couple more years.

He continued, “I’ve talked to Rusty, Mark Martin, Dale Jarrett. Joe Girardi’s been a good friend of mine, used to be the manager of the New York Yankees (MLB), and play ball through his years. So, getting a different perspective from outside of our sport, I’d say that’s probably been one of the biggest helps. Mark Martin, I sat down with him a couple of years ago in Wyoming and just asked him ‘why did you drive so long.‘”
According to Martin, the simple answer was ‘why not’, especially since he enjoyed driving. The former driver misses seeing his name and number on the scoreboards, especially after retiring.
