Team insiders told The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi that they expect Truex to be back in the #19 Cup car for the 2025 NASCAR season. This is promising news for Joe Gibbs Racing, given that Truex is among the top talents in NASCAR and currently ranks second in the points standings. The driver of the #19 car is due for a victory and is likely to find himself in victory lane soon. However, neither Truex nor Joe Gibbs has confirmed the news yet.

As long as Truex hasn’t made a definitive decision about retiring, there will be ongoing rumors about who might take his spot, with names like Chandler Smith and possibly Truex’s brother, Ryan Truex, floating around. Nonetheless, Truex seems to be enjoying his time in the NextGen car and performing well—key factors that could convince the 2017 Cup Series champion to stick around for another season in 2025.

According to the former Stewart-Haas Racing driver, Martin Truex Jr must make a decision soon. Not only would this clear up the ongoing uncertainty within his team about his retirement, but it would also ease any tensions. Harvick, talking at Happy Hour by FOX, expressed, I think with Martin some point that has to get old of of just continuously going back and forth on a year-to-year basis of you know- are you going to come back next year. And so I think that that decision I think that it sounds like they’re putting more pressure on Martin this year to say okay earlier we got we got to we got to do something because we got to know what we’re planning around here and move forward.”

Harvick also recalled how Hendrick Motorsports once took a pause between 2015-2018 to completely rebuild the team. If Truex could clarify his intentions, it would significantly help the team in making decisions about potential new drivers for his #19 car.

Recently, when Pockrass had the opportunity to ask Truex Jr about his plans for next year, the #19 driver simply said, “No,” indicating no new updates.

Earlier, right before the Darlington race, when faced with the same question, Truex had responded, Not sure. I haven’t really talked to anyone about it all yet so I’ve just been kinda focused on the racing part and not really thinking about it. As every year it happens, it sneaks up on you.”
