Following the race at the Martinsville Speedway, Kevin Harvick walked away as a disappointed man. At nine wins, one would have figured that he was in with a shot of the Final 4. Unfortunately, things did not work in his favor and he finished outside the Top 4.

As a result, he ended up with a slot in an unwanted records list. To be precise, he is now joint third for the most wins in a season without winning the title.

He is tied with former NASCAR driver, Carl Edwards, who lost the 2008 Cup Series title. He is only behind Rusty Wallace in the 1993 season, and Jeff Gordon in the 1996 season, who won 10 each. However, Bill Elliott continues to hold the record for the most wins without taking the title, with 11 under his belt.

Every playoff driver knew that the Martinsville race was their last chance to make the playoffs. In light of this, Kevin Harvick got extremely desperate, especially as the laps ticked by. The scene played out in a manner that there were five laps to go, and Harvick found himself chasing Kyle Busch.

The Stewart-Haas Racing driver steadily hunted down the Joe Gibbs Racing driver until the last lap. With one corner to go, he made one last desperate lunge down the inside of the #18 car. Sadly, he could not make the move stick, so he switched to Plan B and tried to take Busch for a spin.

Truthfully, he succeeded in his task, though he performed it a little too well. This is because Harvick also spun along with Busch, and it ended badly for him. Busch performed a full 360° spin and continued on his way. However, Kevin Harvick wasn’t so lucky and he hit the wall, thus ending his hopes.
