NASCAR icon and Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, after his 23-year-long memorable stint last fall, decided to call it quits from racing. Most of us will miss the sight of him racing, but luckily for him and the fans, he won’t be far from the action. Taking on his role as an analyst at the Fox booth, the NASCAR Hall of Famer has found himself a perfect retirement job.

The 48-year-old will join Mike Joy and his long-time friend Clint Bowyer in the Fox booth for the 2024 Cup Series season. Although, this new role has put the former SHR driver in a tricky situation. Staying true to his role at Fox, he will need to call out the drivers and form a strong opinion about himself. Naturally, this can cause friction between Harvick and his former teammates, and it looks like the former SHR driver is trying to avoid such scenarios.

Kevin Harvick will have quite a job on his hands during his time at the Fox booth this season. Broadcasters are expected to be blunt and unfiltered, and this is where the founder of the KHI will have to tread carefully. NASCAR is a passionate sport, and emotions can fly high at times. While Harvick will be only honoring his duty in calling out the drivers, he is careful about not overstepping in dishing out his opinions on drivers.

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, he stated, “There’s going to be some moments where they disagree with what I say, but I would hope there’s not many of them that wouldn’t feel good enough to just call and say, Hey, why do you think this? But you have to call it by the seat of your pants and say what you think and just be honest and natural about what’s going on the racetrack.

The KHI founder even went on to share his expectations working alongside his friend Clint Bowyer, “Clint and I are good friends and have known each other for a long time. But how he is going to go about it is probably going to be a little bit different than I would. How he’s going to say it is definitely going to be different than how I would say it.”

A clash of opinions is natural when you have contrasting personalities in a studio. The same can be expected of Harvick and his friend Bowyer when they take on their duties in the booth this season.

It takes more than just knowledge and real-life experience to be a successful broadcaster at Fox. With different personalities taking up the role there’s bound to be contrasting opinions, and Harvick is expecting the same from his buddy, Clint Bowyer. Fortunately, for Harvick, he won’t have to hold back on his thoughts as Bowyer knows him well, unlike his former teammates.

The great part about this situation is I have to get to know Clint zero. I’ve known him on the racetrack and off the racetrack, and where we’re at now, we don’t have to compete against each other. That is a much different relationship than any relationship we’ve had before. It’s wanting to have the same outcome, have everyone enjoy it and being comfortable enough with each other to not be offended by something he disagrees with. He knows I’m going to disagree with him, and I know he’s going to disagree with me.”

The first show by the trio during the Busch Light Clash was a toned-down version of what Harvick can deliver. Hopefully, in the upcoming iterations, there will be more unfiltered raw displays going forward.
