Donald Trump’s presence at Coca-Cola 600 sparked both excitement and controversy. For some, Trump’s attendance was a chance to see the former president up close, others, however, viewed his presence through a political lens, given his tenure in office.

NASCAR veteran Kevin Harvick disclosed his experiences about meeting the former president and the repercussions of engaging with Trump in such a public setting. Harvick has moved onto Fox’s booth as a broadcaster after retiring from the sport. Harvick is seen alongside Mike Joy and Clint Bowyer during the live broadcast. His decision to introduce himself to the former president was a mix of excitement and trepidation. However, Harvick did not expect the comical chaos with Trump’s security.

In his new podcast episode, The Happy Hour, Harvick shared the hilarious encounter between Clint Bowyer and Trump at the Coca-Cola 600. Harvick explained that he and Bowyer made a split-second decision to seize an opportunity to introduce themselves to Trump during a commercial break.

Despite the potential risks of approaching the former Prez, Bowyer’s boldness pushed him out of his safety net of the broadcast booth and towards Trump. He was seemingly unfazed by the crowd of Secret Service agents present, however, it did not end as Bowyer and Harvick expected it to. “So we decided that we were going to go out and introduce ourselves to the President, and shake his hand during the commercial because he was on the roof and we were in the booth. So we said, what the heck, Clint’s influence is pretty heavy, but I agreed.”

He continued, “I said, well, you go first, so I send him first. And Clint goes bebopping out of the booth, down the steps, and just starts to go towards Trump. I mean, there’s Secret Service everywhere, and they all but threw him off the roof.”

Harvick recollected shaking hands with Trump after the initial misunderstanding. He also stated that he saw Richard Childress seize the opportunity to get introduced to Donald Trump during the break. Harvick also stated that Trump has previously spent some time on the pit box with Richard Childress, a fact he was not aware of at the time of their meeting.

From the looks of it, Fox broadcaster Kevin Harvick saw all the comments on social media and decided to shed some light on the ongoing accusations. Speaking on his recent podcast episode, The Happy Hour, Harvick stated, “Lets get something straight. We don’t decide when they cancel the race. We were sitting up there like the rest of you on social media with nothing else to do trying to wonder to ourselves what in the hell are they doing, why haven’t we canceled the race, when are we going to cancel the race…we have nothing to do with canceling the race, NASCAR is in charge.”

Although Harvick proclaimed not having authority over NASCAR race cancelation, now that he knows the former Prez, who knows?
