Kevin Harvick doesn’t have to show up for his day job anymore. Finally, he can make time for himself, not having to worry about the grind that goes on before every week’s race. Well, while that is good for him as he’s already had a long and illustrious career spanning over two decades, it has its downsides too.

It could make him lazy and out of things to do. Surely, he could race once in a while, but that itch will perhaps not subside just by doing that. A FOX Sports reporter does sound like a great opportunity, but that would probably not be enough to tickle the driver in this legendary speedster. Interestingly, Harvick seems to have fixed his eyes on something else that even took Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. by surprise.

With 23 years of driving in NASCAR’s top-tier racing series and a Hall of Fame-worthy career, Kevin Harvick has done it all. But what next? A man of his caliber and expertise may do more than just analyze races or comment on on-track brawls. Hence, the #4 sensation now shifts the trajectory of his interest from being a driver to the line of work that goes behind a driver driving his machine every week.

As the curtains to the recent episode of the Dale Jr Download parted, the 15-times most popular driver heard something that he was not expecting to hear from Harvick. He said that he was especially intrigued by the job of a consultant for a team. Dale Earnhardt Jr. exclaimed, “Really?!”

The 47-year-old nodded. When there’s talk about what’s happening in the world of NASCAR or the progression of the drivers and the cars, it could make a former driver unhappy about not being able to experience it first-hand. This is the missing piece for Kevin Harvick. But the good news is that he is looking for that piece in the shop.

“There’s something about walking around the shop and walking into the suspension room or engineering meeting or whatever that is or helping their driver,” said Harvick. “So, that part is interesting to me; just to see if there’s a piece out there that fits well with what I do…”

“I really enjoy… the people and the parts and the pieces and the politics and everything that goes with that competition,” he added.

An entire season of the NASCAR Cup Series is indeed a tiring affair to go through. Staying away from one’s family and traveling constantly and putting up so much on the line is hard on drivers. Needless to say, it’s hard for the families too.

Kevin Harvick’s son Keelan is just 11 years old, but he’s all set to make a name for himself in the world of motorsport. According to the Citrus County Chronicle, the #62 Hunt Brothers Pizza go-kart prodigy said that he wants to make a name in F-1, considering the name that his dad has already made in NASCAR. However, Kevin Harvick has been able to watch his son race twice until now, in Europe. Now, it’s time for him to invest more time in being a coach for his son.

As reported by Forbes, Kevin Harvick exclaimed, “Being able to spend more time with his racing and watch Piper do what she wants to do and not have my wife look at me with the evil eye while she’s traveling to watch Keelan race.”

“I want to have flexibility in my schedule to spend more time with all of them. They’re at a pivotal point in their lives where they need both of their parents to be part of it as much as possible. Getting out of the competition side allows me to have some flexibility in my schedule,” he added. Moreover, Kevin Harvick is also one of the new owners alongside the likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Justin Marks, and Jeff Burton.
