The longevity and consistency of Kevin Harvick have baffled many experts and NASCAR fans this season. At 44 years of age, the Stewart-Haas Racing is not even close to finished and has a contract that lasts till 2023. As a 10th win this season seems pretty close, Harvick always ups the ante in the playoffs.
Harvick is in the prime performance phase of his career at a stage that is usually seen as the twilight phase for NASCAR drivers. On the verge of completing 20 full seasons in the Cup Series, Harvick believes the key to his longevity and consistency is performance and results.
“The one thing that I try to explain to all the younger racers, an extra 100,000 people on Twitter isn’t going to make you stick around longer,” Harvick said in a recent interview.

What did Kevin Harvick say about Danica Patrick?
Harvick feels results are the only things that help a driver continue for a long time in the sport. He believes that a personality or a funny name is, in no way, a substitute for performance. He cited the example of the former NASCAR star Danica Patrick to make his point of performance.
“Performance on the racetrack is really the bread and butter of what we do, and no matter if you have a funny personality or you have a famous last name, it doesn’t matter.
“In the end, Danica Patrick is probably the best example that I can think of that, is just the fact of having the results on the racetrack,” Harvick continued.

Harvick says the key for him has been harping on and learning from his performance in each and every race. He then further implements what works and eliminates what does not.
“I think every week we’ve put a lot of pressure on ourselves to figure out why we didn’t run like we did or why we ran like we did in order to try to continue that trend forward,” Harvick expressed.
Coming to his strong show in the playoffs, Harvick’s winning rate considerably improves in the playoffs as compared to the regular season. Since the playoff system started in 2014, he has at least one win in all seven playoff editions. No other driver shares that feat with him.
