Kevin Harvick announced his plans for retirement earlier this month. The veteran NASCAR Cup Series driver has spent more than two decades in the sport. Having one championship under his belt, he now plans to end it all after this season. However, soon after his announcement, there was heavy speculation surrounding the timing of it all. Many believed that it was the struggles with the Next-Gen car that made him quit. Pockrass shared a short clip of Harvick’s interview on Twitter. Speaking about the speculations related to the Next-Gen car, Harvick said, “The car did not play a factor… We looked at this five years ago. There was not a single thing that pointed to that being the right time to retire. We continued going forward with driving the car. But I can tell you that with all the difficulties with the Next-Gen car, I think has made our sport closer together. I think the drivers communicate more.
