Is Keelan Harvick the next big name in racing, following in his father's legendary footsteps?

It is always a delight to walk down memory lane. Especially when you race down that lane and come out as a front contender. Kevin Harvick, a glittering fixture in the NASCAR Hall of Fame, has points in his resume that are unparalleled. Holding 60 Cup Series wins and the 2014 Championship trophy for Tony Stewart’s team, Harvick is a racing veteran. But on his path to achieving this status came smaller laurels in late-model racing.

After almost a year of bidding adieu to his 23-year-long Cup Series stint, Kevin Harvick clinched a top-five. Instead of a NASCAR race, the Fox broadcaster fetched this milestone in his racing roots among lightning-fast youngsters. And Harvick could not help but exude his excitement in hitting the tracks again.

The last time the Stewart-Haas Racing veteran went late-model racing, he was younger than current SHR driver Chase Briscoe. Before entering the stock car racing world, Kevin Harvick cut his racing teeth in go-karts, clinching seven national and two Grand National championships. Then he raced Late Models at local tracks, winning the 1993 Late Model title at Mesa Marin Speedway in his hometown of Bakersfield, California. That distant memory of wheeling a late-model car to glory was stirred back to life on Friday at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Engaging in a clash of the West Coast’s Late Model Titans, Kevin Harvick drove his car to a 4th-place finish, as former boss Tony Stewart watched. And he bubbled with enthusiasm about driving Super Late Models at The BullRing after 29 years.

“Yeah, it got fun there at the end. I just want to thank everybody for coming out. The last time I raced here was 1995. The grandstands were over there, and it was in a Southwest Tour car. I can’t thank all the competitors, fans, people, teams for coming out. This was a lot of fun. That’s a lot of race car. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a real race car.”

Late-model racing has acted as a springboard for many NASCAR drivers. Joining the Late Model Stock Car competition in 1997, Dale Jr won a few times at the always-tough Myrtle Beach and East Carolina and ran respectably in the big-money fall races. Both Dale Jr and Harvick ran the CARS Tour event at Florence Motor Speedway. So Harvick explained how he loves racing these cars even now. “It was a great show. I just enjoy driving these cars. It’s fun to be able to spin the back tires and push the pedal down. Thanks to Craig for bringing these Super Late Models. We’ll be back a couple of times next year with these cars.”

After hanging up his firesuit after delivering almost a decade of memories to Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick left a strong legacy. But the torchbearer of that legacy is already here – Keelan Harvick. The junior Harvick has already added many laurels to his fast-growing racing career. For instance, in a double-header April weekend, Keelan won the Legends feature at New River and finished second in his first-ever race on a Street Stock on a zMAX CARS Tour. So honing the skills of this young speedster is Harvick’s top priority – Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) and Rackley W.A.R. announced a partnership for 2025.

Through the partnership, both Kevin and Keelan Harvick will join the driver lineup for Rackley W.A.R.’s Super Late Model and Pro Late Model programs. “Teaming up with Kevin Harvick is a game-changer for us at Rackley W.A.R.,” Rackley’s co-owner Willie Allen said. He added, “Having Keelan and Kevin join our Late Model team next season is just as exciting. We’re not just building a partnership—we’re building a future. There’s no doubt this collaboration will drive success, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.”

Kevin Harvick is not only exploring his roots but also his future in Late-Model racing. As Harvick relishes his newfound milestone, his son Keelan may be bringing more along the way.
