If you recall, the South Carolina 400 at Florence Speedway was all the rage a month ago. Yes, thanks to Dale Earnhardt Jr bringing back the red Budweiser Chevy. But also because a stock racing star was born!

Kevin Harvick’s son, Keelan Harvick, debuted in the Limited Late Model category. And his P8 finish had Kevin Harvick and everyone in the racing world stunned. How a 12-year-old was so poised in the 96-lap race against seasoned late-model veterans? Obviously Kevin beaming with confidence. Now, as Keelan is perhaps taking one of the biggest steps of his career, Kevin has opened up about the mistakes he made with Keelan.

After spending two years driving in Legends and winning several races, Keelan is now entering stock car racing. Kevin Harvick might not like to accept it, but he knew this day was coming sooner or later. And that probably is scary for a father, who’s been through all that to become one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers. And surely Keelan is headed there too!

But what Kevin Harvick is struggling with is the balancing act of a father and a stock racing mentor. While the mentor entered Keelan in the Florence race, the father took over once race day arrived. And we get it, Florence can be nasty, so Kevin cautioned the youngster. Rather over cautioned him! And now that Keelan is set to take on Pro Late Models in the 2025 CARS Tour, Kevin has some regrets!

What’s your perspective on:

Will Keelan Harvick outshine his legendary father Kevin in the stock racing world?

Have an interesting take?

The Harvicks were at the media day, where Kevin spoke about the mistakes he made ahead of the Florence race. He said, “The biggest problem he had was us. We should have just let him go out there and not tell him what to do. I don’t think we all expected him to do as well as he did. He was very aware of his surroundings, communication, and the things he did with the car.”

Hopefully, from now on Harvick just let Keelan be! Because the father and mentor role has a third one joining – the series owner. Rather, as the season kicks off, there would also be a fourth one of a competitor.

Rackley W.A.R. and Kevin Harvick Inc. have entered a partnership to field drivers for the Super and Pro Late Model categories. This lineup would have many drivers, including the Harvicks. So on many occasions, they will be racing each other. And that’s something Keelan is really looking forward to.

Keelan might be a rookie in Late models or stock car racing, but we know he adapts fast. In only two years, he started dominating Legends racing. Just in 2024, he won 27 races in 49 starts. So we think it wouldn’t be long before we see him doing the same in stock cars. Also, the kind of maturity he has as a 12-year-old is making that NASCAR future look bright!

Look at what he had said after the Florence race: “I feel really good. I can’t thank these KHI guys enough. They put in a lot of work. It’s definitely cool to get my first one under my belt, but I can’t wait for the next one.”

And neither can we! We are pumped to see the father-son battle in the CARS Tour. They are expected to run 25-30 races in 2025. And not just race, Keelan plans on winning them. On this, he said, “I’m going to be very excited [if I win]. I’m probably going to hit the griddy. [If I beat my dad], the celebration is going to be a lot bigger than hitting the griddy.”

Yes, and if that happens, the celebration would be across the entire stock racing world! What do you think about the Keelan vs Kevin battle? Do you think he’ll make it to NASCAR? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
