On Sunday, Kevin Harvick benefitted from some late drama for Denny Hamlin, to win the Brickyard 400. The 44-year old declared that he would not celebrate if he won.
However, once he crossed the finish line first, all those promises went out of the window straight away.
It is worth noting that this is Harvick’s 3rd win at the Brickyard 400 and his 53rd career victory. This puts him one win behind the legendary Lee Petty for 11th on NASCAR’s career win list.

Harvick and Hamlin are also tied with 4 wins apiece in a single season, and the championship is heating up.
This is because the driver and a few crew members decided to climb the fence separating the track from the empty stands. Apparently, they purely wanted to do it for former driver Tony Stewart.
Harvick acknowledged that it not easy to win at the famous Brickyard and it means a lot to Stewart.

What did Kevin Harvick plan initially?
The original plan was for the team to climb the fence while the driver performed burnouts in celebration. At that point, he stopped to think, realizing that he and the crew rarely did things together.
So, he changed his mind at the last minute and joined the team on the fence.

He spoke in a live chat, “So we climbed the fence, did a burnout. You know, it’s the Brickyard, and to be able to win here, race here is one thing.
“Out guys did a great job, Denny had some trouble, we knew he was wearing those front tyres out. We pushed as hard as we could, the pace got faster. In the end, I’m glad he’s okay because that was a huge hit.”
Kevin Harvick confessed that he initially thought that he could not catch Denny Hamlin. What he did know was that he could stay close, especially with Hamlin’s tyres fading quickly. Unfortunately, he could not get close enough to launch an attack on Hamlin.
