Kenny Wallace has always been a man of action, be it on the track or off of it. The former Cup Series racer has had an illustrious career in NASCAR, which spanned over 25 years. He won several accolades during his time as a racer and competed in over 800 racer in the Cup and Xfinity Series. You’d think that he has satisfied his hunger for racing at this stage in his life. But you’d be wrong. Turns out, Wallace still has that hunger even today at 60 and he will get a chance to hit the asphalt yet again and it’s all thanks to Dale Earnhardt Jr.

He might not have won a Cup Series race during his time in the sport but Kenny Wallace was regarded as one of the most prolific racers of his time. He has never shied away from a challenge and a challenge is what he will face on Saturday. At 60, he will be making his debut in Junior’s CARS Late Model Stock Tour on a track where he believes he has learned a lot as a driver.

Yes! It Is Great for NASCAR

No, It Was a Disaster This Time

Kenny Wallace made the announcement through a video he shared on his Twitter handle. In the video, the former Cup Series revealed the peculiar reason for his return to motorsports. Apparently, the 60-year-old has been having a recurring dream of late that he was on track for one last hurrah.

This was reason enough for Kenny Wallace to decide that he wanted another run on the asphalt, eight years after his retirement from NASCAR. He mentioned that one of the first people he had called when he had the idea was Dale Earnhardt Jr. Initially, he wanted a run in the Xfinity Series but that did not materialize.

So Dale Jr. suggested something else. He asked Kenny Wallace to make his debut, at 60 years old, in the CARS Tour. Kenny might not have raced in the CARS Tour before but he has more than enough experience on asphalt. And he has seen the series before so he has an idea what to expect. Being a former Cup Series racer, he also has what it takes to race at the highest level. It will be interesting to see how he brings that form to his debut on Saturday.

Initially, Kenny Wallace was supposed to be a part of the race at Tri-County but poor weather conditions ruined his plans. He then decided that he would race at the South Boston race. It is a track where Wallace believes he has learned a lot as a racer.

“Man that’s where I cut my teeth,” he said in the video he had released on Twitter. Kenny Wallace knows that things will not be easy. He has been out of the game for a while now but the veteran is hoping for a top-10 finish in his CARS debut.

Wallace has one goal going into the CARS race at South Boston, making sure that the people there remember how good he really is. The former Cup Series racer believes that he will be in a good car (No. 36 Filter Time Chevrolet of R&S Racecars).

“I want to win. That’s why I’m coming. I don’t do appearances anymore. I’m coming to race,” the veteran racer revealed as per an article in South Boston Speedway.

“ I want to qualify top 20, and I want to finish in the top 10. I don’t want to embarrass myself. Those three things. It’s hard for me to go ‘I’m going to run in the top five.’ Now, I can run in the top five, but I think that’s a pretty lofty goal against these great racers. I want to qualify top 20, run top 10, and when I’m done, make sure they remember I was there,” Wallace added.
