The Darlington track was lit with twists and turns, from the lights throwing a spanner in the works, Kevin Harvick biting the dust with a penalty, to Denny Hamlin’s pit crew throwing a monkey wrench in the mix, letting victory slip through his fingers. Yet, amidst the hullabaloo, the stellar performance of the new driver, Jimmie Johnson, almost slipped under the radar.
But leave it to Kenny Wallace and his eagle eyes to spot the diamond in the rough. In his latest YouTube video, he heralded it as a “big-time” show from a fresh face in the circuit.

While many burned rubber with stellar performances, like Chase Elliott?s commendable 8th and Eric Jones finishing in the top 10, a lot was lost amidst the smoke and mirrors of on-track theatrics. Not to be overlooked, Chris Buescher and his mentor Brad Keselowski consistently roared, while Bubba Wallace edged into the playoffs, clinching the 7th spot with sheer grit.
However, it was the new kid on the block from Legacy Motor Club who revved up quite the chatter. With just two Cup Series races under his belt, Carson Hocevar, stepping in for Noah Gragson, has managed to turn heads and leave tire tracks that impress. And when a NASCAR heavyweight like Wallace sings your praises, you know you’re on the fast track.
Wallace, in his latest YouTube video, couldn?t hold back his admiration as he exclaimed, “Carson Hocevar finishes 17th, crowds on their feet, like wow! The guy has only ran only two NASCAR Cup races, and he is already a superstar. […] They start 39 cars every week, and 17th in a Cup series nowadays.”
“Maybe not you because you are sitting on your couch, but inside the garage area it?s a “big time.” 17 for a man that?s a rookie, only two races Carson Hocevar is our hero right now. Because it?s hard to run 17th”, added further.

Hocevar was a real master during the Southern 500 for the No. 42 Legacy Motor Club squad of Jimmie Johnson, which is renowned for its musical chairs tactics with drivers. The full-time Craftsman Truck Series driver finished the race smoothly and in the seventeenth position.
For a squad that has been struggling to establish its foothold since its inception, this was no minor accomplishment, even if they didn’t make it into the top five. Particularly in light of Hocevar’s previous issues in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, when he often found himself in a precarious situation.
Securing a spot under the top 20 in the inaugural race of the playoff season, there’s no denying the achievement and the sheer euphoria that comes with it.

Hocevar, filled with gratitude, commented, “I mean a lot of fun. It didn?t feel like 500 miles to me because I was just smiling the whole time. I was enjoying it. These guys race really hard; they are so good at what they do.”
