It’s one thing to run up front all day and win, but it’s another to wreck hard and rebound from it. Hendrick Motorsports icon Kyle Larson did the unthinkable this past Sunday by holding off his Joe Gibbs Racing opponent Christopher Bell by a narrow margin of 0.082 seconds, punching his ticket into the Championship 4 race. With that, Kyle Larson poses a serious threat to everyone on the grid as he has a strong shot at the Championship title this year. But this victory didn’t come easy.

Although Larson was able to keep his nose on the track, the rear end of his Valvoline Chevrolet got loose and hit the wall. Team VC Jeff Gordon shuddered at the sight. However, Kyle Larson shook the odds and steered forward to grab the lead after making an ingenious pit stop during the closing laps of the race. Referring to the close save, Kenny Wallace revealed what the number 5 Hendrick Motorsports team would possibly do if Larson won the title this year.

The 2021 Cup Series champion won the first seat in the round of 12 by winning at Darlington. And now again, he is the first entry into the top 4. It goes without saying that the entire community will now break down his chances of winning his second title. Till the sport has a new winner next week at Homestead Miami, there will probably not be anyone besides Larson to enter the Championship winning discussion.

But just imagine the pressure that Kyle Larson went through when he wrecked himself. He and nobody to blame it on but himself. And if the Chevy Star had not been able to win, every single soul out there would have held that crash responsible. And Kyle Larson knew it.

In a recent episode of the Kenny Wallace show, the 60-year-old former FOX Sports reporter revealed how Kyle Larson might have felt after he made the narrow escape.

Kenny joked, “You’re going to see him (Larson) sideways, and then you’re gonna see him locking the left front break up. While he’s running 190, straightening that baby out, cleaning the p**p out of his pants, back wide open.” To notch things up a little, Wallace even shed light on Hendrick Motorsports’ next step, if Larson was to win the Grand finale.

An official T-shirt should come out with the words “The Save” printed on it (denoting Kyle Larson’s save). “They should actually have the design ready right now. There will be a T-shirt called “The Save”. They’re gonna have that Hendrick Cars number 5 Chevrolet… they’re gonna have it come off turn 4 and this is what you’re gonna see,” said Wallace holding up a toy car, replicating the exact position of Kyle Larson’s car moments before he crashed.

Kurt Busch had almost lost the chance of winning the 2004 Cup championship when his right front tire separated from his #97 Ford Taurus and started running on the tracks all by itself. On lap 92, Busch suspected something wrong with his car, which started vibrating and ultimately lost grip. Just as he was about 10 yards away from the pit road, the tire decided to take an independent tour of the track.

As a result, the then 26-year-old speedster dropped back to the 28th spot in the field, with barely any chances to break through. But he gathered all the remaining hopes and scooted forth, following the obvious pit stop.

Shocking everyone on the grandstand, Busch defeated HMS legend Jeff Gordon by 8 points, who was equally surprised at the results of the race. Moments after it was all over, Gordon, as per ESPN, admitted, “That’s what makes up a championship year for you. You run into problems and they really aren’t problems, or you don’t have problems at all.”

Naturally, Busch was elated. He exclaimed, “Just an unbelievable day. To be able to persevere such as we did, to overcome all the different obstacles, to put together a great season such as we did. Unbelievable.”
