NASCAR is one of the few sports where family is as important as the team you’re competing for. Because most of the time, it’s a family-owned racing team! These stars who have motorsport coursing through their veins can’t stay away from the action for one second, as proven by some of the drivers’ ventures in the off-season.

As our favourite NASCAR drivers hang up their suits and gloves for a winter packed with family outings and other shenanigans, two of the sport’s most well-known stars sharing the same name went out of their way to engage in some friendly banter over social media. Keeping the Christmas spirits lifted, Kenny Wallace and Bubba Wallace had a few jokes to share with the Twitter community!

It all started when Kenny Wallace shared a wholesome post on Twitter about his brother, Rusty Wallace’s involvement in giving Kenny a shot at the Busch Series in 1984 and being a professional racing driver through the years. While the post included eye-opening details about the kind of character Rusty Wallace is, a particular comment caught Kenny Wallace’s eye.

Rusty IS Kenny’s brother. That’s a fact 😀” was the sarcastic remark that launched the friendly banter between Bubba Wallace and the host of the Kenny Conversation. Replying to the fan’s comment, Kenny Wallace jokingly quoted, “What about @bubbawallace? Where does he fit in? 😁”. After all, Kenny Wallace is known to clap back with some of the funniest one-liners, and this one was no different!

But leave it to Bubba Wallace to make things more interesting. The man who’s had his best Cup Series season this year immediately shared a GIF of a confused John Travolta. Wallace indicated that the gif perfectly encapsulated what would go down “When I show up to the family reunion.” It’s safe to say the joke landed directly onto unsuspecting fans who couldn’t help but control their laughter.

While some couldn’t take the well-intended joke for what it was, others joined in on the hysteria to ask Bubba Wallace what he was going to get as a present from the Wallace household this year.

In a wholesome tribute to his brother and best friend, Rusty, Kenny Wallace pulled out all the stops to shed light on how giving and kind his brother has been throughout their lives. Wallace began by taking us back to 1984, a year when the brothers moved to North Carolina along with Rusty Wallace’s wife and Kenny’s then-girlfriend. As time went by, Kenny Wallace became a crew member of Joe Ruttman’s Levi Garrett Cup Series car and eventually moved to St. Louis, while his brother would drive the #88 Gatorade for Cliff Stewart.

Turns out, the number 88 wasn’t just lucky for Rusty Wallace, but also for his brother, who got his big break thanks to a call in November 1988, that would change his life forever. Wallace went as far as to say that Rusty was the only reason behind his success in NASCAR. He also shared how Rusty had a brand new single-wide Oakwood mobile home waiting for Kenny and his wife with a brand new porch on the front when the couple arrived in North Carolina.

Not only had Rusty Wallace changed Kenny Wallace’s life for the better through sheer generosity, he had helped the 60-year-old realize his dream. He shared, “It was a dream come true to move back to Charlotte, North Carolina ‘as a race car driver’. We ended up winning the 1989 NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year. And Rusty won the 1989 NASCAR CUP championship the same year. WHAT A YEAR IT WAS.”
