Kelley Earnhardt Miller has been by the side of Dale Earnhardt Jr. as a pillar of strength. The siblings have seen the struggles of life together, moved on from it, and become a mainstay in NASCAR through their work at JR Motorsports. Carrying on the legacy of their legendary father, the late Dale Earnhardt, the duo has been making waves in the stock-car racing circuit.

As Junior gets closer to his 50th birth anniversary, one can look at his relationship with his sister, just like Earnhardt Miller did on a recent Instagram story. The CEO of JRM unearthed an image that instills a sense of nostalgia within the fans and, most certainly, in her, having watched her brother grow up in the shoes of their revered father.

Kelley and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are separated by two years between them. The pair grew up watching their dad dominate drivers on weekends across various iconic tracks in the country. In September, Kelley was officially named as the chief executive officer of the organizational pyramid of Junior’s business ventures. This shows a glimpse of the bond between Jr and his sister, who has gone through a multitude of challenges since their childhood.

In 2001, after the tragic day at Daytona, Kelley opened up the door for her future at Dale Earnhardt Inc. She began to pay closer attention to her brother’s career and interests off the track. Helping her brother navigate through the blues, ever since then, she has been a close aid in Jr.’s plans for JRM.

As Junior turned 49 on Tuesday, Kelley ran down the halls of nostalgia to bring back a rather unseen image of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and her in their childhood attires, innocent and prepared to make NASCAR history. One of the more notable attributes of the image is the way Jr.’s birthday cake is decorated. It holds a racecar surrounded by some pit crew members, showcasing his love for racing since his toddler days.

Although Kelley’s love for racing materialized very late in her life, she has transitioned well into the new role as the CEO of a racing team.

As an organization, JR Motorsports has grown at an incredible rate. One of the powerhouses in Xfinity currently, the team’s success can be attributed to a lot of factors.

One of them would surely be the continuous zeal its owners have shown this far in the journey. Talks of JRM being a Cup Series team have been going on for quite some time now. The team has already started gathering numbers similar to Cup Series teams in terms of following and interaction.

Earlier in 2022, when Kelley was announced as the top of the iceberg, she had a conversation with NBC about the team’s aspirations to be a Cup team and how she could be a leading figure in that aspect. She was quick to emphasize age being an important factor in pushing her forward, as she stated,

I’m 50. I don’t want to do this forever. It’s a big investment to figure out how you make that work over the long haul. Do our families want to remain in racing? Do our kids want to take this on? Am I going to be 70 and doing this?”

Cup Series racing is considered the pinnacle of stock-car racing in the country. For a racing team to field drivers in the competition is a notable achievement and being a mainstay is even more impressive.

However considering the charter system, teams have been forced to be more responsible about their position in the grand scheme of things. Signaling at their family’s presence in the sport, Kelley then added,

“I think people forget about this. It sounds great to go Cup racing, but there’s a life cycle you’re trying to fit into. I want to relax at some point in my life. I want to have grandkids and go to the cabin and do stuff like that. Just because of their name and heritage. I believe that it would be good for the sport to have an Earnhardt owner in the Cup Series.”

While their plans of moving up to the Cup in 2023 have not come to fruition yet, it would be a lovely sight if NASCAR could work a way around to include the team in 2024.
