NASCAR returned to the road course of Indianapolis Motor Speedway to host the Cup Series for the third year. The drivers who were staggering behind in points tried to tread the extra mile in order to earn the extra possible points, if not a victory, in order to work their way up in the playoff bubble.
However, a race on the tracks of Indianapolis is surely incomplete with major on-track incidents and wreckage. The past two races on the track bore witness to numerous instances where drivers wrecked each other out of contention. The same was apparent in the 2023 Cup Series race, the initiator being none other than Ryan Blaney, racing on the team’s home track.

The race on IMS had surely drawn huge attention, owing to the star-studded cast of drivers who had flown all the way from the other side of the world. Moreover, the third last race of the regular season witnessed a fierce battle among the drivers, especially the ones who were yet to rise above the cut-line for the playoffs.
However, just halfway through the race, the track was already embroiled in on-track incidents. One such driver who fell victim was Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger. Team Penske on its home track was surely struggling in the race to make a pass and gain traction on the track. Furthermore, Joey Logano in Stage 1 had made contact with his teammate Ryan Blaney, which had put both the driver in a precarious position. With the unfolding of incidents, AJ Allmendinger, who was left fuming inside the car, was heard speaking on the radio, “If I get back to that 12 (Ryan Blaney), he’s getting crashed.”
