The much-awaited Solid Rock Carriers Thanksgiving Classic is back. The event has attracted Limited Late Models, various street and mini stocks, Bandoleros, and even any Cars among the easily recognizable ones. Late Model veteran Josh Berry has been a revelation at this race and the defending champion for the past two years. The fresh Stewart Haas Racing recruit is ready to make it three in a row on Sunday and get a confidence boost before the 2024 season arrives. However, the possibility of a coupe to the front row like Ross Chastain at Martinsville last year lingers in the shadows.

Craftsman Truck Series driver Kaden Honeycutt is also a part of the fancy line-up decided for Sunday. The no. 04 F-150 driver for Roper Racing will start in the front row after a stellar display in the qualifying session, threatening Josh Berry’s aspirations of making it three in a row. He reciprocated in kind when asked about pulling off a special move to get into the lead.

The Solid Rock CARS Tour has been a great platform for Kaden to learn and evolve. In 13 starts, Kaden has nine top-10s and seven top-5s already. R&S Race Cars would want to retain a developing talent from their hands at this rate. As per Honeycutt, the racing product on the track has been great. The 250-lap Late Model feature qualifying race also ended a long wait for pole wins for the 20-year-old. When asked how well their team is on the track, Kaden Honeycutt said, “I think it’s going to race even better. “

“We’ve been fast all weekend. To have the opportunity is awesome. Haven’t had a pole in about two years. We got a 250-mile race; it’s going to be a long race. You can go from pole to 10th very quickly. So we’re going to try to lead the race. “

The youngster has gradually made a name for himself in the Truck Series. His highly efficient statistics have come on the radar of many teams who have been prying on his services. While Honeycutt is tied to Truck Series now, his diverse portfolio opens up a door for many opportunities. On being asked about what he wishes to do better in qualifying, he replied,

“I didn’t do a good job of saving my tires. I’m not giving up track position this time. It’s all about being in front of everybody, and being there in the end. So we’re going to work on it.”

The prestigious race even offers an overall prize of $89,200, with the race winner taking $15,000 home. Apart from that, the race authorities have added a different set of rules from regular stock car racing circuits to add a small twist. Should the race go without any caution flags for 50 laps, the officials trigger a controlled caution, giving teams a chance to regroup and restrategize. The different facets of guidelines are another factor that makes this annual race worth participating in.

Could there be a repeat of the Ross Chastain ‘Hail Melon’ moment?

Among many changes in rules, there is also a new system for tires. All competing vehicles are only allowed to use the Hosier F-45 tires and must request tires according to the size requirements before the race. The Friday morning meeting decides the order of the tires’ rollout, which has been a decisive factor for pit stops in the race. Kaden Honeycutt expressed concerns about the same as he said, “The problem is all that stuff, the rubber, and the trash has gone all the way up there.”

“It’s stuck, so it might clean up for the race, but we got a full set of features tonight. It’s really good to see the car count here. Hats off to them for another great weekend. You just never know, I’ll have to see. I guarantee you when there’s five laps to go, and I’m running second, I’m gonna try something.

Adding flavor to the conversation, the promising Truck Series driver then answered a question about the race having a Hail Melon moment on the cards for him; he replied, Yeah, somewhat. It should be interesting, someone’s going to do it. It’ll probably be at the end of the race when the tires are hot. We’ll go out on Sunday and see how it works. “
