The Chicago Street Race had been eagerly anticipated as the most awaited event, and it certainly lived up to the hype. The race was filled with chaos and non-stop action as the track conditions were less than predictable. All this led to NASCAR putting a hold on the start of the race. However, after a 90-minute delay, the engines roared to life, with the teams switching strategies to tackle the wet track. However, there was one driver who easily overcame every hurdle.

Trackhouse’s Project 91, by Justin Marks, continued to demonstrate its success, as we have seen in the past. The eye-catching performance of the #91 car during qualifying solidified its position as one of the favorites for the race. And why wouldn’t it be? Behind the wheel was none other than Shane Van Gisbergen, a three-time Supercar Champion.

Justin Marks had a strategic vision of bringing international drivers into NASCAR, believing that it would not only attract more fans to the sport but also lead to victories for his team.

When Justin Marks informed Ty Norris, the team president of the Trackhouse Racing team, about Shane Van Gisbergen driving their #91 car, it came as a surprising revelation.

Ty Norris captured his initial thoughts upon hearing the new driver’s name and expressed: “I actually asked him [Justin Marks] who he was? And started some research and call around people and they are like Man he’s a beast and he is gonna show up and he’s gonna be competitive more we asked him to talk to and what a professional what a special talent,” Ty Norris told in post-race interviews as per SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

“He was amazing.” Ty continued. “When he got about fourth and he led down a lap and he is a second and a half faster than the field and I was like, Holy cr*p, this guy is on the kill button right now and he’s gotta get it done”

However, it’s important to note that Shane Van Gisbergen is currently under contract with Triple Eight until the end of the 2024 Supercars season. Only after that will he be free to explore potential opportunities outside of the Australian racing series. The managing director of the T8 Team, Jamie Whincup, has no objections if their drivers decide to pursue other avenues once their contracts expire.

He’s only contractually bound to us for next year.” Jamie Whincup told Fox Sports. “But me sitting here right now, of course, I’m trying to run the business as well as I possibly can, and I need the best drivers – but if any driver, engineer, employee came to me and said, ‘hey, my dream is to go to the other side of the world and do something else’ then I’m not going to stand in their way, am I?
