Inside the Junior’s household, Amy Earnhardt thinks it is a slippery slope of aspirations. Why? A fan dared to have a simple query about the future professions of their daughters. The response was a mix of whimsical other-worldly tendencies that aptly illustrate the realities of parenting.
Amy Earnhardt described their 7-year-old elder daughter, Isla Rose, as someone who is still exploring her interests. “She doesn’t want to commit to anything yet,” Amy said, noting that Isla has expressed dreams of becoming a dress designer or even a mother. However, she humorously pointed out that Isla’s got a very unempathetic vibe, suggesting that she might prefer a career where she can maintain control. In contrast to this, their younger daughter, Nicole Lorraine, is characterized as adventurous, wild, and unpredictable.
She further explained that Nicole, the 3-year-old, has signed up for dance lessons and is eager to dabble in various activities, from race cars to more traditional “girly” pursuits. “Professionally, I don’t know. I just want to keep her out of prison at this point. She seems like she’s like that kid that’s going to push every envelope,” Amy joked, highlighting Nicole’s tendency to push boundaries.

That’s when Junior was laughably forced to chime in, considering Amy literally ratted him out when asked from whom Nicole gets the trait. Junior, far from getting embarrassed, was gleaming with pride. “Their birthdays are two days apart. They’re naturally just more similar, I think. She looks like me but acts like him, which is scary,” Amy quipped.
For now, Junior clarified, “There’s really not anything that the girls are really into right now.” But before he could really elaborate, Amy intervened with some crazy intel on Isla, “Isla thinks she can really be a mermaid. So, there’re people out there who do that professionally which I’m scared to let her know about because I don’t want her to do that.” To which, Dale Earnhardt Jr. suggested that the elder daughter might even pursue acting to fulfill her mermaid dreams. He spent several minutes explaining Isla’s fascination with mermaids, and additionally, Nicole’s obsession with unicorns. As it turns out, it has already begun to get out of hand!
“It’s funny how both have adopted a mythical character, and like, it’s a hard stance. They make headbands with an unicorn, and I and Nicole have to wear that pretty much every day. And there’s a half a dozen of them floating around the house. I mean, Jesus, there’s like at least 70 headbands. Isla could be in a mermaid tail… and scoot around on her bu**.”
As they reflected on their daughters’ interests, it became clear that the Earnhardt family embraces the unpredictable nature of their childhood, debating whether the girls take after the dad or the mom more! As for the proud dad, Isla has already been tagging along Junior to make core memories, something he describes as an “out of body experience.”

Isla Rose is invested in all that her father’s name represents. So, when stage-1 and 2 winner Justin Allgaier had contact with his JR Motorsport teammate Brandon Jones and Sam Hunt Racing’s Kaz Grala in the final laps, it was not just Allgaier who crashed hard on March 11 but little Isla was too peaked emotionally to figure out what had just happened! The crash gave way for JGR driver Sammy Smith to register his first career Xfinity win at the Phoenix Raceway in the playoffs. Junior had no less than a mouth-gaping experience watching his daughter,
“Nicole’s like ‘I want to get down. I want to go play’ and I was like Isla, ‘Do you want to get down? Do you want to go with your sister?’” Out came a blatant “no” response. Let’s not JR Motorsports had a rather heavy bid to win its fourth championship, considering it had fielded two cars—Sam Mayer’s #1 and Allgaier’s #7—that made it to the playoffs. Little Isla was just hooked and what happened on Lap 178 just stirred something out of her. Almost cathartic that left emotional!
“Nope, I want to watch the finish of the race. And so I was like wow. Okay. we are gonna sit here and watch the finish. So me and her watched the finish of the race together for the very first time and she is starting to fall in love with the idea that JR Motorsports has got a chance to win this race. She is really starting to cheer for Justin louder and louder with each lap and starting to understand.

“I cannot believe this thing is happening. I feel like I am having an out-of-the-body experience. I am like Isla, he is wrecked, he is wrecking. She was shocked and didn’t know why he wrecked and what does that mean and boy when she started to realize that was the end of his race, as she comes off this emotional high of being excited and all that, she got a little emotional,” Junior concluded.
As the Earnhardt girls navigate their childhood, they are likely to draw from the qualities their incredible parents display— whether that means racing, designing, or even something entirely different. Will we see another Earnhardt take the wheel in the future, or will there be a gallery for fans to visit? Only time will tell.
