?Just Tryna Be Skinny? ? Shane Van Gisbergen Reveals His Tactics As He Copes With NASCAR’s Intensity

Australian Supercar sensation Shane Van Gisbergen is just a day away from making a second road course appearance in NASCAR, at the Indy Race. But before that, on Friday, he ran his debut oval race at the Indianapolis Raceway Park. Speaking of the challenges, he had revealed that there was a major difference between the alignment of gears and the brake in the cars he has been driving and those in the NASCAR trucks. Moreover, other drivers who are used to the ovals might take advantage of his inexperience and try to narrow him down. But the good thing is that there is also some kind of coping mechanism.

After running the Truck Series qualifying laps, the SVG revealed his ultimate strategy while facing so many challenges.

The Trackhouse Racing crew comes to Shane Van Gisbergen’s rescue

SVG admitted during a post-race interview that everyone was respectful while racing him and there were not many contacts. He recalled having run 3-wide along three laps, which was definitely not very critical considering the reputation that road courses at NASCAR have.

However, at one point when there was a contact in front of SVG, he got lost in the smoke. But not for long. Someone guided him into driving to the lane where there was no smoke. According to the New Zealander, his brakes and the voice on the radio saved his day. But who was it that came to the rescue?

The answer: his Spotter. Gisbergen was relieved to have had a spotter. He just kept his foot on the brakes and followed the directions that Stevie gave him. After the race, the 34-year-old Speedster said, “Stevie was awesome telling me where to go.”

He also admitted, “I’ve never had a spotter before until before Chicago and so many cars around me and then two wide in front, I didn’t really know what to do and there was probably three laps where we were three wide and I was up the top just tryna be skinny so, it was a lot of fun.”

Indeed, there is a lot for SVG to learn before he can actually contend for the win at the tricky oval raceways in NASCAR. However, SVG’s aim for this race was not to win.

Once a wise man said, “We learn from failure not from success”. SVG seemed to be in line with this saying. Trackhouse Racing Team owner Justin Marks retweeted a video of SVG talking to a reporter about his rookie mistakes. When the reporter asked him to rate himself on his debut oval race, the latter said he refrains from rating himself.

He said, “I got a lot to learn. Pace was okay in some spots, I probably gave the wrong call on the adjustments and we really dropped on the last 10, so much fun.”

When she asked SVG how was the overall experience for him, SVG could not hold back and with a big smile exclaimed, “It was awesome… had some awesome racing with people, had a (Red) Bull, a lot of fun.”

He thanked his sponsors and his team for giving him the opportunity that he so dearly cherishes.

“I am living the dream. Everyone was respectful. It was awesome!” he added.
