Though the much-awaited Indianapolis road course was devoid of action, Kaulig Racing driver Justin Haley fell victim to the race’s only caution as reigning champion and Team Penske driver, Joey Logano took the 24-year-old into the grass, turning his day grim and ugly.
Finishing 38th just in front of Stewart-Haas Racing‘s Aric Almirola who crossed the finish line last, Haley who was arguably the only one who posed a challenge to Shane Van Gisbergen at Chicago, just couldn’t emulate his runner-up performance this past Sunday as the youngster was bumped off into the side.

Long story short, the anticipated road race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was nothing like the NASCAR nation or even the drivers imagined it to be. Unlike the race 2 years ago that witnessed multiple cars being wrecked with William Byron starting off the chain reaction, last Sunday’s race was almost plain, except for one Joey Logano-triggered caution early in the race.
While the race had just one caution, the similarities don’t end there as Logano, who hit the curb 2 years ago, hit it once again, this time sending Justin Haley into the wall instead of wrecking himself out like the previous time. The poor unsuspecting driver who was coming turns 5 & 6 was pinched into the tire barrier by Logano, who ran wide, hitting the curb, sending the #31 into the barrier.
Some might say that was a bad omen for the youngster who finished 38th despite giving SVG a decent fight at Chicago. With NASCAR dropping off another Radioactive segment, the community got a sense of what happened from the driver’s POV.
“#22 is right, #38 with him,” said the Kaulig Racing spotter, who was following the action along with his driver until the #22 got him into the barrier. While the reigning champ clarified that was unintentional saying, “Jumped that curb and it just sent me into him. I didn’t mean to do that,” Haley, who just was sent into the barrier at high speeds, voiced his confusion. “I just don’t get it. Don’t get it.”

Road-course racing is not everyone’s cup of tea. Unlike the younger generation that tends to love the carnage, mature fans simply despise the fact that these tracks are slowly replacing the older ovals.
While such tracks offer a lot more action, from a driver’s perspective, it’s more like a derby. With drivers bumping each other, zooming past each other at lightning speeds, all it takes is an unintentional nudge to send these cars flying across the track.
And that’s what happened in the 2021 Verizon 200 at the Brickyard. While it was during the early stage 1 that Haley was sent into the barrier, back in 2021, the caution came late with just 5 laps to go, triggering a missive wreck involving multiple cars.

Running 4th, Byron was the first to hit the curb and what followed was nothing short of a disaster for anyone who came after. Logano did the exact same thing, hit the curb, and instead of bumping others, the #22 Ford flew right into the barrier ending his day with an ugly bang.

While Haley, who was this year’s victim, patched up his #31 Chevy and got back into the race, he missed the train as the early wreck took off his momentum.
