Kevin Harvick and Rodney Childers are one of the very few driver-crew chief combinations in NASCAR history. With 37 NASCAR Cup Series wins, 144 top-five, and 219 top-ten finishes so far, Harvick has made the best out of Childers‘ company. While they are known to share a strong bond beyond the tracks, an exchange on the radio chatter revealed that the Stewart-Haas Racing driver momentarily lost his cool recently on the 46-year-old.
Driving in the Cup Series comes with a lot of challenges. It is only natural for tempers to flare given the pressure and intensity of the competition. Naturally, it took its toll on Harvick recently at the Circuit of The Americas.

Harvick announced his retirement at the beginning of the year, bringing an end to his illustrious 23-year career at the end of the 2023 season. Childers penned an emotional message to that, where he described the California-born driver as no less than a brother or a best friend. Of course, he had a big role to play in his career, especially after their 2014 Cup Series triumph.
The duo has had a memorable run together and will be hoping to end it on a good note this campaign. However, the recent race in Austin saw an unexpected scenario. As heard on the NASCAR radio chatter, Harvick’s spotter, Tim Fedewa, pointed out during the final stage how they were getting passed easily.
To this, crew chief Childers reiterated, “That’s what I’m trying to get at. We got to go.” Somehow, this did not bode well with Harvick.
He said, “What the f**k do you want me to? I’m going as fast as I can.” While the 47-year-old looked agitated, Childers gave a calm response. He said, “I don’t even know how I can be more clear.”
Surprisingly, the 2007 Daytona 500 winner couldn’t control and lashed out at the 46-year-old crew chief. He said, “Just don’t f**king say it right now. Just shut the f**k up.” While that was unexpected, it was frustrating for SHR overall, as none of their four drivers could manage to finish in the top ten.

Harvick finished 13th at the end of the race, the best among the SHR drivers. Chase Briscoe completed the races two places behind the 2013 Coca-Cola 600 winner. Aric Almirola finished in the 30th place whereas Ryan Preece failed to finish for the third time this campaign.
