The race saw Blaney and Kevin Harvick engage in a thrilling battle for supremacy. With just two laps remaining in the 188-lap race, Harvick seemed poised to claim the win in his final full-time season. However, Blaney, with a crucial assist from Riley Herbst, made a daring move that allowed him to snatch the lead from Harvick.

The final lap played out like a high-stakes drama, with Blaney and Harvick racing side by side. As chaos erupted behind them on the frontstretch, Blaney managed to edge out Harvick by a mere 0.012 seconds, securing his second win of the 2023 season. Roger Penske couldn’t contain his excitement after witnessing Ryan Blaney’s remarkable triumph. He reflected on the intense race, saying, “We talked about it at the beginning, but to thank Ford for that power. It gave us some real power, as you could see it. But it was a team effort, and I guess for us, it’s just another step into where we want to be. That final four. But terrific day for the team.”

As if the euphoria of victory at Talladega wasn’t enough, Team Penske had another reason to celebrate. Through an official Instagram post, the team announced a significant milestone in Roger Penske’s illustrious career. His induction into the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame.

During the award ceremony, Roger Penske took the stage to acknowledge his induction and express his gratitude. He emphasized the importance of the honor and its connection to the dedicated individuals who make up Team Penske.

Roger Penske shared his sentiments, saying, “To me, this honor… and think about it, we have our Race Shop here just a few miles away. And I say our home really, sure, it might be Indianapolis, it might be living in Detroit. But our home is here in North Carolina and certainly Morrisville. When I walk in the shop every day, we have a big poster there, and it has 450 names on it. Guess what? Half of them have been there 10 years… So I said to me, it’s knowledge and that commitment to people and the effort to win.”

“We don’t win every day,” he added. “You know that in racing you win less, you lose more than you win. You know that, Richard, right? But think about it. We know that together, don’t we, and Dale and Donnie and everybody, Bobby and certainly the guy sitting over here? We’re always looking for that next win, right, Will? But when you think about it. This honor, as I said earlier, is for the people.”

During the winner’s press conference following the Talladega race, a reporter brought up the frustrations expressed by Joey Logano, Blaney’s teammate, during a Sirius XM NASCAR interview. Logano’s comments shed light on the team’s performance throughout the year, which had its fair share of ups and downs.

Blaney was asked whether he believed that the team’s performance in the second half of the playoffs could serve as a unifying factor for Team Penske. Could it lead to a chance to compete for a championship and shift the narrative surrounding the team’s energy and performance this year?

Blaney provided his perspective, acknowledging the team’s challenges. “I definitely think it’s probably not been the year we wanted at our group, right? You go from winning the championship with the 22 guys, and then we’ve struggled a little bit this year overall for speed and finishes and stuff like that. Joey getting knocked out in the first round was definitely a gut punch. Yeah, it’s easy to get down on that stuff, but it’s easy to get fired up about things too.”

He continued, emphasizing the team’s relentless pursuit of improvement, “Our group is always working towards getting better. I don’t think they — they don’t dwell on being behind a little bit for a long time. They just go to work, right, and they try to figure out how to be better. I think a shot in the arm like this, it’s like, let’s go. We’re in the Round of 8. We’re still in this thing. We have one in it. Let’s keep working.”
