NASCAR fans are eagerly anticipating a high-octane, competitive race at Talladega Superspeedway, known for its close finishes and dramatic big ones. However, in a recent interview, a revelation made by Christopher Bell has disappointed fans and highlighted an ongoing debate within NASCAR.
The #20 Toyota Camry driver revealed that his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin believes the current speedway package may not be all that it seems. This raises questions about the effectiveness of the current package, with many wondering what kind of race they can expect.
Christopher Bell reveals what Denny Hamlin said about the Talladega Superspeedway
In an interview with Eric Estepp, revealing Hamlin‘s thoughts on the current speedway package, Bell said, “My teammate Denny Hamlin is probably a superspeedway expert and he says that the speedway package is just as bad as the short track package was last year.
“So he thinks that with the horsepower levels that we have, the amount of drag and downforce that we have on the cars that there won’t ever be a third lane or a competitive third lane.”
This comes after Hamlin had previously criticized NASCAR for the aerodynamic problems that have made it difficult for drivers to pass.

The news comes as a disappointment to NASCAR fans who were hoping for an exciting and competitive race at Talladega Superspeedway. However, Bell’s statement suggests that the current package may not allow for a competitive third lane, meaning that drivers will be forced to stick to the bottom or middle lanes for the majority of the race.
This revelation also highlights the ongoing debate within NASCAR about the effectiveness of the current package, and whether it truly promotes exciting and competitive racing. While some fans and drivers have praised the package for producing closer finishes and reducing the impact of aerodynamics, others have criticized it for limiting passing opportunities and neutralizing the skill component of the drivers.
Bell then went on to discuss if three-wide action is possible on the superspeedway or not.
The possibility of a third lane at Talladega Superspeedway
In the same interview with Eric Estepp, Christopher Bell also discussed the possibility of a third lane opening up during the race. Bell admitted that he was not a superspeedway expert and said, “So you know, I know from our standpoint at the JGR team meetings, we’re not expecting a third lane to come in.”
Bell explained that during JGR team meetings, they were not expecting a third lane to open up, but that they would wait and see. He acknowledged that anything could happen during the race and that they would have to be prepared for any eventuality.

The possibility of a third lane opening up during the race is always a hot topic among NASCAR fans. It can provide an opportunity for drivers to overtake their competitors and make for more exciting racing. However, it can also be risky, as drivers have to navigate a narrow strip of asphalt at breakneck speeds while avoiding contact with other cars.
