Kyle “Wheel Man” Larson has undeniably become a motorsport icon, earning respect both on pavement and dirt tracks. Bursting onto the NASCAR scene in 2012, this Northern California native quickly became a household name, showcasing his remarkable talent in the Cup Series behind the wheel of his Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports. While his success in NASCAR is nothing short of remarkable, Larson’s dominance extends to the world of dirt track racing. He has conquered some of the sport’s marquee events, including the Chili Bowl, Kings Royal, Prairie Dirt Classic, and the Knoxville Nationals.

As Rick Hendrick‘s star continues to rise on both pavement and dirt tracks, NASCAR too recognized the allure of dirt racing, leading to its venture at the Bristol dirt race. NASCAR’s decision to embrace the thrill of dirt track racing with a three-year stint at the Bristol Speedway was a watershed moment in the sport’s history. Known for its high-banked concrete surface, the oval was transformed into a dirt-covered battleground, showcasing the versatility of NASCAR drivers. With a nod to the roots of American racing, NASCAR’s foray into dirt racing witnessed stock cars slinging around mud.

In the midst of the surging popularity of dirt racing, the motorsports community found itself buzzing over a viral Instagram post that resurfaced from the 2022 racing season. This throwback moment took center stage, casting a spotlight on an incident during the 2022 USAC NOS Energy Drink Indiana Sprint Week at the Gas City I-69 Speedway. With just two laps to go, Robert Ballou, who was in fourth place, attempted a pass down the inside of CJ Leary. Unfortunately, this bold move resulted in a collision that sent Leary’s car flipping upside down, dramatically altering the course of the race.

The viral Instagram post captured the heated aftermath, as Leary emerged from his overturned car and sprinted towards a still-strapped-in Ballou. However, what was intended as a kick in frustration took an unexpected turn when Leary embarrassingly ended up drop-kicking thin air instead. The incident became fodder for fans, who spared no criticism, turning the episode into a meme-worthy moment.

A common sentiment was that such actions were out of place in racing, as expressed by the comment, “Real drivers don’t do that with a fellow competitor strapped in. Bullsh** move.” Some had a humorous touch, such as “Junked himself twice. Don’t skip leg day.” Another criticized the act, saying, “What a punk to kick someone while strapped in,” emphasizing the unsportsmanlike nature of the incident.

Critiques extended to the racing maneuver itself, as one fan remarked, “Not the best effort at a slide job,” pointing out the shortcomings in the on-track action. Others took a more serious stance, with comments like, “That’s a b**ch move! You run up on somebody with your helmet on says a lot! What a lame.”

Furthermore, fans called for consequences, “Was uncalled for C.J. is a poor sport! Should have been suspended a couple races!”. Another humorously suggested, “Winner of the fickle finger of fate award. Should have been suspended.”
